Anyone else on their own today? And happy about it?

I've spend today playing Battlefield 2 and tidying my room
I also did some laundry and sorted out my books and paperwork.

No I didn't get any presents but I did get a card and a phonecall.
The only other people I've seen are all Thai girls
(I'm in halls at university, don't get the wrong (or right :D ) idea)
who are Buddhists and don't give a monkeys about Xmas.

Phew! what a relief,
I don't think I could have handled a full on Xmas day
with my family or son and ex-partner.
Every year I sit and try to enjoy the forced
"spirit of Christmas",
I'd rather be on my own and let the people who can
handle people enjoy themselves.

Now tomorrows a different matter,
tomorrow I visit my son Reuben and give him presents,
Tomorrow when all the hypes over I can do it.
Just me and him a few toys, nice.

Today still holds lamb chops, BF2 and of course W.P however.

Im not sad,

I'm really not,

honest! :|

I really, really need my space, or I melt down
and start withdrawing into Pixel world.

I'm okay if I've got a book or something,
If I "have" to socialize beyond my limits it takes beer.
Nobody gets the best out of me then.

What is it about Aspies and bloody cats?
Everybody on this site adores them.

The wierd thing is I love them too,
we had three when I was growing up.
When I was a kid they were my best friends.
I felt they really understood me.

I think I've just realised what's missing from my life.

A CAT...and the zaniest one I can find too.

Here's an excuse to use-there's always lots of abandoned cats who need homes, especially at this time of the year,i'm sure people who would appreciate a zany/odd cat are in more need as well because many tend to go for the fluffy, cute kitten steriotype, and ignore the grown unusual cats.
Have a look around for local sanctuaries,or the nearest cats protection adoption centre, information about kitty adoption and where to find nearest C/P centre:

For years I thought I was really weird or crazy
for getting so attatched to my cats,
I made up new names for them every so often,
They were literally the only "people" I talked to.

Now I see that many of us here are the same.
I wonder what it is about cats inparticular
that we find so appealing.

They are relaxing and very affectionate.
They are also smooth in their motions
they move gracefully from one action to another.
I think their pradictable gentle behaviour
makes us feel safe and calms us down.

People say dogs are more loyal,
but I think cats are true.
A cat can feed itself and even go off for a few days.
They don't depend on us in a needy way.
The love and affection they give is freely given.
When they relax on us and purr it's personal,
they won't go up to just anybody for fuss.

But man, do you know when you've
hurt your cats feelings.

Sulk Olympics.

Any thoghts on why Aspies like cats?
Perhaps I should post a thread, but where?

Hey KingdomOfRats that site is really sad,
But thanks for showing it to me
I want to go and get one now.

Realisticly I will have to wait till the summer when
I move off campus.
A cat that's had a bad start in life would be best
It would be easier for me to empathise with it.
(It's a long story)

It would be good to do a survey on W.P
to see:

a)Who likes cats

b)Who has a cat/s

c)Who had cats as kids

d)Who wants a cat in the future

e)Who is really actually a cat

I am ambivalent.
I am happy to escape the hype, but wish I could enjoy the family being together part.
I gave myself a present that I had bought two years ago so I didn't remember what it was. It made me happy.
I also worked two quiet overtime shifts, which will make me happy in about 10 days.

My best Christmas's have been spent alone.

I made an early get away this year (just got home)
Only had to spend 4.5 hours with everyone.
It started to snow really hard and that made an agreeeable excuse for me to get home before the roads got too bad. :D

I only regret a little that I'm alone
and only because I feel I "aught" to.

I also know that by now I would be asking
if I could use the internet or play a video game
or looking at the bookshelf if I was at a friends,
or wanting to go home.
(Which is quite literally far far away)

I'm cooking 3 huge lamb chops now
which I'm going to eat with a crappy assortment of dips type thing.
I've got 6 beers left and loads and loads of blissful SPACE :D

Yes, I spent Christmas day on my own. Not the ideal situation, but a calculated choice over the other options available. I dug up some old computer games, read from some new books, and did a little work on televising my garden for an event in June, which is not as impressive as it sounds, but was successful. Having exchanged a few e-mails with a Chinese contact, I expect to do the same with America before going to bed.

Not having close friends or famly with whom I can really be myself, social company involves a level of acting or performance which I tend to find wearing, and that increasing with the gap between how I am, and how I (think I) am expected to appear.

Picking up another thread, it was suggested two years ago that I try having a cat.
I did, but it was not a success. The cat seemed pretty happy, if purring is any guide, but for me the duty of care, looking after food, litter, medication etc. outweighed any feeling of warmth or relationshhip. It was another job. I do regret that, because it I was hoping for an exception. I'm short on feelings of warmth and companionship, I pretty much always have been.

For me it's more a matter of finding the right
outlet for my warmth or affection.
I suppose it's the typical aspie obssessiveness.
If I find someone/thing that I can open up to
I totally melt and act like a happy child.
To the rest of the world (the unchosen)
I appear stern, emoitionless and probably a little scary.
I suppose I could put out a little more
but to be honest I don't care about people/things
I don't care about, I haven't the energy spare to fake it.

Getting back to you (you know how it is  )
Perhaps cats aren't your "chosen" outlet.

Try to discover what fans the spark into life.
We all have it, sometimes it's hard to remember.

Sorta happy I'm on my own. Times like now make me wish I had a decent family, but they also make me glad I'm on my own because it means not getting forced into anything by my family. (Though in the later years, they at least let me go off on my own when they'd be doing their Christmas thing. Chinese restaurants for the win!)

Family are difficult for aspies especially
They don't often want to believe we can't behave like them,
It's hard for them too I think,
I know they don't want "him" around
but I know each one of them loves me in a strange way.

It's better like this, it's a compramise,
I come just before or just after Xmas but never on the day.

The only one that misses me is my son
but I tell him he gets two Xmas days
He can get his head around that one for sure

I just noticed your in California,
It's the time zone thing, people post in shifts.
(okay not a solid rule for sure).
I have to wait till 2.00-4.00am to get enough decent
servers to play Battlefield 2 online.

The internet is turning me nocturnal again.

I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day working two overtime shifts at work so that other coworkers could stay home with their kids.
