I just got the coolest earmuff hearing protectors and I don't ever want to take them off!! It is the kind that people who operate heavy machinery wear.

I don't know why I didn't get this sooner. It makes life so much more tolerable. So if you have sensitive hearing I recommend you go out and buy some good ear protection. I regret not having discovered this sooner. And the coolest thing I found out is that if I wear my ear plugs with my earmuffs then I can't hear hardly anything!

I am so happy right now. Anyone else love earmuff hearing protectors? Would it be appropriate for me to wear these in class?

The only problem with stuff like the ear muffs you got is that when you take them off your hearing is even more sensitive because of the sound depravation. Now if they are used in moderation they can be really helpful though ^_^

I knew people who wore them in class, but the class was band class in college. The new band hall was too loud (for anyone). OSHA eventually made the school fix it.

I wonder if I could get OSHA to require that I get a headset (that uses earplugs and auto volume leveling) with my phone at work. And a blindfold. That would be heavenly.

I always take ear protectors (the ear muff kind) with me when I see films (because even if the movies themselves are okay, the previews frequently spike decibels). I also use them at home when things like power tools are on--and sometimes even when I'm using the vacuum cleaner if the windows and doors are closed.

We have two kinds: very good and really excellent. We always keep at least two pairs of the very good kind in the car for when we need them and we're out.

The "really excellent" ones are the kind you use if you're practicing shooting at pistol ranges. I buy them in gun stores and they're worth the extra dollars they cost.

When the noises around me get beyond my tolerance level, or the sounds randomly spike, I can get to feel really sick (having nothing to do with actually being sick).

philosopherBoi: That is a very good point and why I would just like to wear them all the time :) when I do take them off - it is in a quite place so it is not really bad transition.

Apep: lol. That would be cool.

KayCe: That is a fantastic idea! I do not go see films very often because of the super loudness. But now I think I will. :)
I always wear ear plugs when I vacuum, and use the food processor, and turn on the water in the bathtub (the shower noise isn't so bad).

am a long time fan/user of ear defenders and non scratchy ear plugs, and currently use a pair of Peltor optime III [hi viz] ear defenders, which are made for the highest possible levels of noise, peltor is an awesome ED brand.
they make tinnitus a lot worse in am if wear them for too long, and due to needing to wear a ice hockey helmet [for protection] ear defs dont fit under the ear guards so its either one or the other.
