I'm doing a research paper in college titled "Autism in Japan".

I was just wondering if any of you personally know what else gets diagnosed along with Autism?

For example, I have listed AutismxADHD, and sometimes having Autism leads to depression. I also have the hikikomori phenomenon in Japan listed.
Any other examples?

This has to be a 20 page paper and I'm at 5. It's going well, but I need to know this just in case.

I was diagnosed with major depression 4 years after being diagnosed with AS.

I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS before being diagnosed with AS.

This seems a bit misleading. Surely it is not having Autism that leads to depression, but rather being unable to escape an environment where one is expected to behave in a particular way and understand things which seem alien. It might be an idea to make the distinction that it is the reactions and attitudes of others that can lead to depression in the Autistic individual, not the Autism itself.
Good luck with your paper, it sounds interesting.

Oh no, I explain that in the paper.
And thanks, it actually is a pretty interesting topic. I was surprised I found stuff on autism in Japan that was in English.

It isn't to unusual to also see references to OCD, PD, Sensory Integration Disorder and a few others in a typical diagnosis. They'll label you with the primary condition that most accurately fits your particular test and evaluation results.

Anxiety disorders are common in people with autism. So is epilepsy.

Thanks you guys for the suggestions. I've added them into the paper, though now I have to find a way to fit them in, but it's going along well.

You may want to add that Satoshi Tajiri (the creator of Pokemon) has autism.

hey I am in Japan :)

and I have a student in 3rd grade who may have had AS. Japanese boy.

Here is some interesting stuff for you

Rise in autism in Japan despite ban on MMR vaccine

some special needs links

Autism in Japan

and some scholarly links

I wonder if anyone has considered the possibility that an increase in autism in Japan could potentially be attributed to small mutations on the genes of the parents leftover from brief exposure to radiation (either by the parent or the grandparent or even the great-grandparent). It wouldn't be a cause of autism or ASD, but I think maybe autism can be caused by different things.

You are not the only one.

I am very interested about what your findings and conclusions will be. It would be great if you could share your research with us. You don't have to but if you need someone to revise and help you edit I will gladly volunteer. Good luck.

Post traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder are also comorbids.
