Am I alone or is this a shared trait with other people with AS.

My dreams have ALWAYS been intense. Supposedly (I'm not sure how true any of this is), NTs don't dream in color and really don't remember their dreams.

In contrast, I not only dream in color most every time, but I tend to remember most of them for some time after I wake up although only a few can be recalled after several hours or days absent some deliberate "note taking" after the dream.

For me, I could always distinguish between the dream state and being awake by two common factors.

1. Dreams often defy logic....so if it seems unlikely, I may be dreaming.

2. While I see and hear in dreams, I really cannot feel, smell or taste. Lately, though, I've had incidents where I experience sensations of touch, smell and taste as well when in a dream.

Is this "intensity" of my dream a byproduct of having AS? I don't mind them as sometimes my dreams are so much fun I'd rather not wake up from them, but still.

Also, a side question....

I never have "nightmares." I have "disturbing dreams" but I don't recall ever having a dream that made me wake up in a cold sweat or screaming. This could be the result of AS affecting how I process and express emotions (e.g. a dream makes me terrified but I have no capacity to express it as a NT would).

What are your experiences in these regards?

I always dream in color and always have really intense dreams..but I have never heard that NT's didn't.
I think it would be interesting to have a black and white dream. I have never had one.

Very vivid dreams that are realer than real, sometimes. I fly a lot. I dream about people I've never met before. People are just "there" and I don't see their faces a lot or know their names. I rarely dream about people I actually know. I dream about being left out sometimes. I had a dream like that this week.

I dream about people I know..and then sometimes I will dream about composites of different people mixed together...or there will be recurring charactures who only appear in the dreams.
Sometimes I will dream about recurring imaginary places.

I dream about being lost a lot. I will be in a massive parking lot and not be able to find my car. Or I will be walking in a huge city and be trying to find home. I wonder if I dream this because as a aspie I feel lost in the world.

(I too often dream of flying, and I love that!)

I always dream in colour.

I often dream about it being just before a big party and I have nothing to wear and I can't find my shoes and I don't have a pair of unladdered tights, it's very annoying.

Most people don't dream in color? I didn't know that. I've always had really vivid, colorful dreams. It gets rather frightening sometimes how real they are. Sometimes I'll wake up and the last image from my dream will be overlaid on top of my room, so I'm seeing both my dream and reality at once. My dreams are sometimes very real events, like going to class or having dinner. It makes it hard to shake off the feeling that my dream was really just a dream. I also tend to have really intense nightmares if I'm under a lot of stress, but that may be part of my anxiety rather than AS.

A peculiarity of my dreams is that I'm not often in them. They consist of watching other people do things, like it's a TV show and I'm a viewer.

Sometimes I am in the dream, but not as myself - I'm occupying the body of one of the other people and behaving like I'm them (or skipping around from one person to another).

I have very vivid dreams but I've always attributed it to be a visual thinker

I've never heard that most people dream in monochrome. Do you have a source or a link for that?

My dreams often involve colourful settings and intense situations. I've always considered them abnormal, but I didn't think they were that different. I need proof about the colour thing.

it's actually the other way around; people dream more often in color than in black & white.
i've read that only 12% dream in black and white so it's actually not so weird that you dream in colors..

i on the other hand have almost always dreamt in black and white but nowadays i dream in colors too... so yeah.

NTs dream in color too and a lot of people have intense dreams and remember them. Actually, it can be a bad sign for your mental health if you don't dream or never remember your dreams - I'll try to remember where I read about it and clarify.

I was reading an article about memory. Isn't the dreams only stored in your short term memory?
The NTs dreaming in black and white is new news for me. I'm only 13, but I honestly do think someone would have mentioned it at least once. You'd think when they were doing dreaming scenes in movies it'd be black and white if so...
Not all my dreams are intense, some can be though and they're ALWAYS in colour.

well i think ur just overly enthusiastic about dreams like "ooooooo"

u must live under a rock if u think most people dont have 'intense' dreams

the real question is:

how does the setting and theme of a dream happen in the subconscious....and why is it so well directed

the answer is most likely anything u know can be grouped OR scattered...that and the fact that when u sleep ur brain isnt processing actual life...meaning it doesnt have to WORK to keep the image of YOUR world alive

so when u sleep the brain actually has a chance to probe into ur memories and quickly assemble a scene

think about it like this, i cant look at this website and be dreaming at the same time, or simply just be awake and dream, ye i can use some imagination but itll never be the same

one part has to shut down in order for these 'realistic' dreams to take over

Sometimes I will dream about recurring imaginary places.
The funny thing is that you know the name of the place, and it's the name of a real place. :)

Actually, it can be a bad sign for your mental health if you don't dream or never remember your dreams - I'll try to remember where I read about it and clarify.
Then my mental health is really good, for the time being.

You should try looking up "Lucid Dreaming", that's damn interesting.
It's when you are realising you are dreaming, while you are dreaming!

I'v tried it, and the dreams are FAR more realistic then, and then you will know that you are dreaming.
This can also lead to full control over yourself and the dream.
