I have a scientific mind. How could anyone possible foretell the future?

I believe people can tell what they think might happen in the future using probability but I don't believe someone can tell the future accurately. I don't believe in telling the future from dreams/palm reading/tarrot cards or anything like that but I am open to being proved wrong.

Has anyone had a psychic accurately predict their near or long term future?

What about Nostradamus? Although he had visions rather than making predictions. I still think there is a lot of things that we can as of yet not scientifically explain, but one day perhaps we can?

For example, a haunting. Can it be that something so bad happens somewhere that it leaves a daunting negative energy that can absorb the heat? When we die our energy/soul where does it go? As energy never dies it just changes into something else, whether it be heat, light potential kinetic. We live in the 3rd dimension but we also are affected by time..

Sometimes there are a lot of strange things out there, and I have seen in my life some unexplained things, even though I tend to take the rational scientific view. I still think there is a lot of unexplained things out there at the moment.

I actually did have a psychic correctly predict my future. At the time it seemed too unreal to be true, was far away from my life back then, but now it is accurate.

Isn't there a mathematical formula in the works for this? I believe it's possible but free will can alter the future. I like the movie Premonition.
What if the future is all around you in frames, you just have to find the frames and edit them together into a film?

Pattern recognition. Rather than deducing in a linear fashion what might happen in the future, you look at the present and fill in the parts that haven't happened yet, like one of those complete-the-picture problems you get in coloring books. Many historians and politicians are very good at this sort of thing. Some people are very good at seeing patterns of behavior in the people around them, or at some environment they're used to--work, school, etc.--and can predict those things. It may be that some people who say they can predict the future are very good at completing patterns. The human mind's an amazing thing; and while there's nothing here that can't be explained by science, those predictions will probably be more accurate than chance would dictate.

I predict that the Earth will rotate at a more or less consistent enough speed over the next 24 hours to produce a period of increasing darkness followed by a period of increasing light...

Being able to tell the future is crap.

The only thing in the favour of psychics will be that people get desperate during a recession. So there will be more psychics around to take advantage of this increase in customers.

There is no ability to predict the future for certain. It is amazing how much you can glean with guesses and estimation though. The mind is a powerful thing.

If you look in my thread "what are your predictions for 2009" or even the older 2008 version you can see that I am pretty accurate in my predictions. I even predicted my mom's back was going to get infected. It did exactly as I predicted many weeks before the surgery. I predicted how low the stock market will go, I predicted 9/11, the tsunami, plane crashes, and other things sometimes with all the details. When I wrote the predictions for 2009 thread, the Dow was in the 8,000 range. I said it will hit 6,000 and now its in the 6,000 range. I predicted the exact unemployment numbers last year. Its like I'm an economist. I told my dad that (he works at Intel) last year the stock will be 15 or below and this is when it was in the 20's. He responded, "no way, it will never get that low!" I told him to pull out of the stock market and he didn't listen. Now Intel stock is at 12. I also predicted the impossible like saying the casualties in Afghanistan were going to be higher than the ones in Iraq even though we have far more troops in Iraq and that has happened as well. I wrote that one in November 2008. So, yes, it is possible to tell the future because I have "psychic dreams" that shows me all of this.

Then you can be very rich within a short period of time.

Write these predictions down, then send them via Certified Post to James Randi at the address on www.randi.org

There's $1,000,000 US in it for you if your prediction validity average is within stasticly unexplainable levels.
