Okay, so one thing about people with AS is that everyone seems to have quirks. No one take offense to that, please, because I am very quirky myself! I have one quirk in particular that I have always done. It's not an OCD thing because I don't do it obsessively, only most of the time. And I don't do it to avoid some catastrophic occurrence. I do it because I enjoy it. Whenever I finish eating something, I will usually crush down containers and store them away inside the smallest container possible. This takes up way less space in the trash can and is just an enjoyable activity to me.

For instance, if I eat a Filet of Fish combo meal from McDonald's, when I go to throw away the trash I will crush my cup, crumple it and my straw to a small size, stuff it inside my Filet of Fish box, crush that down, then put it inside the fry box which is usually the smallest container. I then take the fry box and bend corners inward and crush it as much as I can. Anyway, I'm wondering ... does anyone else do this? I want to think I'm not alone. But if not, what are some of your biggest quirks?

I do that too, but not ALL the time.

I do it MOST of the time, and it always trips me out when someone catches me doing it. I hate explaining it, because I'm simply not good at explaining myself. But it is one of the few quirks I don't mind if everyone sees me doing it ... it's definitely not my weirdest one.

Coming from someone with OCD, that sounds perfectly normal to me. I wouldn't read into it too much.

I'm not, I've just always found it to be "different" and other people usually notice it for that reason alone.

Thanks for posting. :)

I do this sometimes, too, but it's a recent thing.

I'm not sure if these count but I always like things to be an even number unless they are 1 or 5 and I like things to be equal. For instance, if I walked around something on one side I'd have to walk around it the other way too so it's fair (well, I try not to do this in public).

Also, it's hard to explain but if I'm in a car I try to synchronise my toes and fingers so they're pressed down when we pass a shadow, the amount of fingers/toes pressed down is dependant on the length of the shadow and what side of the road it is apparent on. I do the same kind of thing when I listen to music but that's harder to explain.

Oh, and I have loads of routines that I have to fill out every day like stopping a CD after the first letter of an exact word on a certain track before I turn the light off etc.

I'm not sure if any of that makes sense but I feel like quite a freak now. D:

When I'm out, I have a specific, allocated pocket for everything I have or may receive while out.

Keys and/or travel passes go in my left pocket of my jeans.

Bank cards/money go in the right jeans pocket. If I'm carrying someone else's money as well, it goes in the right breast pocket of my coat.

My phone, paperwork, and any new cigarettes, mints or rolling papers go in my left coat pocket (waist)

Opened cigarettes, mints, tobacco, lighters and papers go in the right coat pocket (waist)

Unopened tobacco goes in my left coat breast pocket.

My mp3 player goes in the right breast pocket (when not in use, otherwise I wear it on the lanyard)

All pockets also contain receipts/slips of all kinds where I always request them but always forget to throw them away.

If I ever put anything in the wrong pocket, I get very agitated because I think I've lost it. This pocket layout is so important to me, I'd rather bake in my coat in summer, than leave it at home and suffer a different layout.

((((hugs))))

I do some things like this. If I remove a teacup (or anything) from my cupboard, I have to rearrange all the other teacups to make a new symmetrical pattern. If people come to my apartment and put their shoes or their bag somewhere, I tend to move things all around and put them in a place that seems right to me. If I go up the escalator, I have to run my hand around all the cracks in the rim; if I miss a crack, it feels disturbing, like something is "off".

I guess my obsession with patterns makes sense though, as I am a choreographer, so I make patterns using people all the time. Come to think of it, that was what attracted me to dance in the first place, was the beautiful patterns. I was mesmerized, at age 6, when I saw my first ballet.

sbcmetroguy: I also crush things sometimes and put them into smaller containers. I think I do this sort of unconsciously; I´m pretty sure I´ve done this sometimes, but haven´t really taken notice or paid too much attention to it. I´ll have to be more observant in the future.

Does anyone else open Christmas presents by carefully peeling the sellotape off and unfolding the paper intact, instead of tearing it up?

I just can't rip it, except little accidental tears.

Also, I open envelopes any one of 3 ways. Either by opening the flap carefully, by ripping only the flap (I rarely do this one), or by carefully tearing about 2-3mm off one end.

Also, when folding something, I always have to match up the edges. Even if I'm only throwing it away, I fold neatly.

I'm the same way, everything has to line up and often I will try to get things an equal part away from each other. Everything has to be fair. If I touch one thing I feel the urge to touch all other similar things in the area so I am being fair.

I also have a slight obsession with patterns. I see patterns in colours, shapes and numbers and for some reason I really like seeing them. It annoys me when something is almost but not quite a pattern because I really wish it would be one. I just like everything to be logical, I suppose. My life is centered around logic because that is the only way I can ever figure out what's going on in the social world.

I had a major problem with the "equalness" thing when i was younger but I have managed to train myself to care less about it now. I also do the thing with the CD except mine is when I am in the shower, I can't get out until a certain song has passesd.

Weird lol

I do that too, sort of. It's just so easier crushing it all and taking it to the bin. But the container in my case is a paper bag that holds all of the rubbish.

I'd only do it at Macdo's, like you said.
