I just saw "Mozart and the Whale" last night.

Are there other films about Asperger's and autism?

I saw the movie but didn't feel like it was reflective of me too much.

The Magnificent Seven, with Helena Bonham Carter on BBC.

Snowcake

The Black Balloon

Mercury Rising (one of the characters is autistic)

That's all I can think of right now.

Billy the Kid and I think there is another film but I don't remember the name of it.

Rain Man, which won 4 Oscars including Best Picture. One of the greatest American films of all time, I believe.

Yeah, but since there's a lot of symptom overlap between the two (he has HFA), people with Asperger's should be able to identify with bits and pieces of the depiction.

If they can't, it kinda defeats the purpose of saying that AS and HFA are more alike than not.

I am aware of that, the OP asked for films about Asperger's or autism, not just Asperger's.

If you mean Kim Peek who the Rain Man was based on, he wasn't on the spectrum at all.

There's one about Autism in general coming out... seems weird though. LINK

An autistic ninja girl named chocolate. Off course why didn't I think of it! It just makes so much sense and she's probably self diagnosed as well to add a little subplot to the story.

chuckle chuckle.

THe Black Balloon is very good.Pensieve - another australian here on WP - mentions it also above. it is an Australian film about an austistic guy and his brother.
My sister whose son is autistic put me onto it a while back. It was f*****g great.. the father is in the army. there is no subplot that says he is AS , but i think many of us who are attuned to all matters ASD would pick up on this inference. there are a few little clues to it....

i'd better get back to Patti Smith singing "PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER" now.... I am ont he tenth or so listen to it...repetitious singsongsingsongs are someihtng i have never quite grown out of...

Rain Man was based on two people, one of whom has autism and the other has savant skills but actually has another neurological condition, not Autism, although some of his behaviors mimic autism. He has agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, which actually means the two halves of his brain can do some things independently. He can read two pages simultaneously, one with the left eye and one with the right one. http://www.mymultiplesclerosis.co.uk/misc/kimpeek.html
