What time do you start work/what are your working hours?

This has to be taken as a rhetorical question as I'm posting this to say that when trying to make conversation with me, people ask this all the time. You know, when people can't think of anything else to say to make conversation. They end up asking some sort of time-related question, usually what time do you start work/working hours.

I'm asked this all the time yet it seems a pointless question to ask. It's also particularly closed-ended. Anyone else get asked this all the time and feel it's pointless?

No I don't get asked that, but I get asked if I'm 'native' alot, which irks me

I probably will tomorrow, but I'm going for an interview. It's 7:15-6, if anyone's asking.

It depends: When I do work for a company, the hours the company set, otherwise: No pattern at all.

usually 7:00am - 2:00 pm

What's even worse is the usual 'What do you do for a living' or 'What kind of work do you do'?

i work when i want to the call of my own internal logic.
I like a 4am start with painting as i love dark time. since hitting WP that has changed a bit as i am often on the computer.
I will paint tonight.
What the f**k does 9 to 5 mean? it's a language this autistic does not understand.

Fortunately, I've never been asked this question.

It's usually the "where do you work?" or "what do you DO?"
Both of those are uncomfortable to answer.

What I really want to say to these questions is something like:

Who the hell cares what slave jobs I do to keep food on the table?!?
I have never had I job which I've been exceedingly proud of, and I'd rather not waste my time continuting to think about it. Please say something interesting if are going to bother talking to me.

Perhaps one day, if I ever manage to get a job that puts my interests and skills to use, I'd feel differently.

I work a fire hall bingo. Not much I can do. I work on Friday from 6-9 and I help clean up.
