In fact, it turns out that a neurologist I had seen in the distant past had already SORT OF diagnosed me as having some unusual variant of autism. The idea of Asperger Syndrome and the like wasn't very widely accepted at the time, though (particularly in my redneck region), so the diagnosis was never really picked up.
1) I should keep the propellor-tops entertained for years,
2) I can ask questions that stump licensed neurologists (thanks to the endless hours I devote to PubMed and her ilk),
3) The whole thing is funded by the state,
4) This gives me access to therapy,
5) Support group,
6) Employment help, and
7) A supper club.
They also had characters from the 100 Acre Wood plastered on the walls, so just sitting in the office brought a pleasant glow to my morning.
Less than an hour later, I convinced an evangelist that he was a humanist. I think he's more confused than usual now.
