Books with aspie-like Characters???

Have you read any books with Characters that scream aspie??? I'm currently reading The Perks Of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky. The character Charlie, just screams aspie to me. he reminds me of me. the way he talks the way he acts towards people, and how he interacts, and the way people interact with him. it reminds me of me. was told this was a really good book and it is. anyone read it?? if you've read it do you agree??

any other aspish Characters??

I'm reading a book called The Speed of Dark. The main character is an Aspie and his workmates are Aspies. It's set in the future and their company wants to try an experimental cure on them. It was written by either the mother or sister of an Aspie and is quite good. Sometimes it hits pretty close to home for me (I'm an Aspie).

I own that book and my first thought is, Lous doesn't need a "cure." He needs a labelectomy. 99% of his problems come from the way society has - legally! - defined him!

OTH, check out C.S. Friedman's "This Alien Shore" and her character of Dr. Kio Masada, who I dearly love. And for those into MBTI, his musing on his late wife is the best example of Introverted Feeling I've even seen.

I've been compared to character in Lord of the Flies. I've never read the books so I can't think of his name, but my friends described him as sort of a lazy genius or something like that. I don't read books very often, few can keep me interested.

I don't remember a lazy genius in LotF. I do remember a kid with glasses that was constantly going on about his 'ass-mar' (asthma), was supposed to symbolize civilization and eventually got murdured on the beach near the end of the book. He was called 'Piggy.'

I really don't like that book. It's got good symbology, fine, but I still don't like reading it.

Wow, that book sounds interesting - who's it by? I've had a fiction idea kicking around in my head for a while about a future in which Aspies and other genetically "abnormal" categories of people (intersex conditions (Klinefelter's, Turner's, Jacob's, etc), Down's, ADHD, schizophrenics, etc) are treated as different "races" and bred/used for very specialised types of labour... would be cool if someone else had used a similar idea...

Re books with Aspie-ish characters, apart from the obvious characters which were actually intentionally written to be AS, i'd nominate Denver in Toni Morrison's "Beloved", Noah Joad (Tom Joad's brother) in John Steinbeck's "The Grapes Of Wrath", possibly Bernard Marx in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" (tho i actually think the character of John "The Savage" had closer sympathies/parallels to my life experience) and Charles Dexter Ward in H.P. Lovecraft's "The Strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward" (probably an autobiographical character, like many of HPL's, since HPL was probably an Aspie himself)...

Probably loads of others, which i can't think of right now...

(this topic, and others like it eg. "songs for aspies", "aspie authors", "aspie celebrities" etc come up so often that maybe they should be made sticky topics?)

by Barbara D;Amato, "Death of a Thousand Cuts." The murder victim is a very thinly disguised Bruno Bettelheim. One of his former patients is a major suspect - really nice guy! - but you know for a fact he's the red herring.

Also on the murder nmyster front, Sharyn McCrumb's "The PMS Outlaws," truly the worst book she's ever written and one in which her leading character ends up roomies with an Aspie/trekkie from Silicon Valley and gives readers another Really Good Reason to steer clear of mundanes! (I wanted to wring the heroine's neck; I really loved her roomie.)

Huh? Why do you think Harry Potter is an Aspie? There's little to no evidence of that in the books (no real obsessions on the scale of an Aspie, he's pretty good at social interaction, he's a friggin' athlete for crying out loud...etc.)

I could sort of see a case for Hermione, but not Harry.

In Stephen Baxter's book Manifold: Time, theres a bunch of children who are aspies, called "Blue Children" because they have some sort of obsession of blue cirlces (which is a portal to the distant future). They were sent (ormanipulated, or something) from the distant future to accomplish a purpose which I will NOT divulge here. Has lots of wierd yet realistic science. Eccelent book.

Aha! So that's why the blasted book stayed with me when most non-genre fiction does not.

Has anyone ever read Philip Davison? I have only read The Crooked Man, but the main character would be best described as "very AS-like."
