Child Psychologist for an Adult?
I live in a relatively small city. The only doctors here that specialize in Asperger's are the child psychologists. Do they treat adults? 'cause I don't know where else to go. I just want to find someone who can tell me for sure if I have it because my life sucks right now because of my disorganization, "immature" interests and lack of social skills.
hm...
as a part of the social service offers, i got a psychologist for some chats. for some reason they give you teen-angst-specialized shrinks untill you turn 30

it was really demeaning, cus i am trying to convince the guy that im PAST teen angst, im 27, ive been struggling all my life, and all he can conclude with is that i probably must hate my parents or something.
"you need to snap out, and behave, and get a job"
what a ret*d, ive heard that for 15 years, if it works on me, it woulda worked 15 years ago

ive gotten myself a new doctor now, and of course quit that shrink.
if you can, shop around. its not good to talk to someone who's not qualified.

when I saw the title I thought 'Wow, this member is onto something!' This sounds really GREAT, actually. I mean, child psy's only observe the behaviour but you can tell them about it from the INSIDE! what a resource you would be for one of them to talk to an adult that has the same symptoms as what they look for children.
I think, if you approach them in the right way, it might be a great experience for both of you!
good luck, getting DXed is no laughing matter.

I was turned down by two psychiatrists who only treat children. I don't know about psychologists though. Luckily, there are actually adult specialists where I live in Oregon.

Don't take life so seriously. It isn't permanent!
I was put into the queue for diagnosis whilst I was of child age. While still in the queue I 'became' an adult. Because of this I was taken in before it actually was my turn for diagnosis. They said that they needed to diagnose me before I became too 'adult' for them. I have doubts that this is quite how humans develop.
This shows that at least some within the child psychiatric profession believe they are not capable of diagnosing adults.

I finally found someone to diagnose me in Oregon, a FORENSNIC psychologist! My "official DX" includes "she denies being interested in such magazines as "Guns and Ammo" and "Soldier of Fortune" and makes no mention of my quoting Alfred Lord Byron or Walt Whitman.

I didn't approach him stateing "Test me for this!" like the other two I approached. I just played their game and hinted and suggested several criteria and then filled out the same durn Simon Baron-Cohen Asperger's Syndrome test and got the same score as I did the first time I took it (from a link on this site!)
Being an Adult with undiagnosed Asperger's autism is like being an endangered species. We are the last of our kind, mostly. I don't know if that is good or bad, but having been mainstreamed all my life and never quite measuring up. . . and never knowing why, but just trying harder and harder to simulate. . . well it causes its own issues and damage, too.
So id they tell you that you have 'co-morbids' or types of illnesses and syndromes caused by slogging your way through life, just remember, it could be worse.

and good luck!
