I found this article (I DID NOT write it, SOMEONE ELSE DID) and I hope that people here respond to this woman...Geez, what parent writes this stuff? Maybe the problem WAS the mother and the hundreds of crazy doctors who made this poor kid feel like an idiot or crazy nut...I am just sickened by what she has written...of course, never the parent's fault for their pathetic way of raising kids with autism...

*Shrug*

I've seen children and young adults with Autism behave like this (and it had nothing to do with parenting). Some require constant "guards" to walk them places. It ain't all little professors and cute nonverbal flapping.

There is no link to Autism and Violence. I am not violent nor have I ever been. Its just certain people.

Of course not, psychologists just call it "aggression" nowadays. The "aggressive" child with Autism can grow up to be an "aggressive" adult, and the behaviour is exactly the same as a child as an adult, except as an adult, one tends to have the ability to cause great harm with their hands. If the aggression is due to frustration, which is caused by the Autism, the link is there, as said frustration won't be there if the child or adult didn't have Autism.

In the story, the man chocked the young woman because it was the millionth time that he was rejected by her, and he most likely couldn't understand why (the lack of empathy); he lashed out. I remember a man with Asperger's beating a woman senseless because she blocked his path, which was his routine that he had to stick to (he couldn't deviate from or stop on the path). Now, for a man to do this, you have to wonder what pain the break of routine caused....

Seesh, have some empathy for the mother. I get so sick and tired of victims being treated like bad guys. Her son is beating her. Get that through your head. It started months before his 18th birthday so it's obvious he is having something else going on besides autism. The mother is thinking it's the pills that did it. And saying he wants her dead? 8O

And even if it exists, the cause is not clear. Our adult son's behavior could be the outcome of living daily in a world where everything hurts and nothing makes sense. It could be the result (as some scientists have postulated) of excess testosterone on the autistic brain. It could simply be wild coincidence that I ran across this particular story during a time when I was looking for answers. Any of these is possible. I just don't know.

a surge of excess testosterone. . . on the autistic brain.

That's not a valid conclusion.

You don't have every form of autism there is. You just have your form of autism. Others forms of autism are different from your autism.

Other people with autism are sometimes violent or prone to violence due to their autistic symptoms.

Yeah but when people say "People with Autism are violent" that means me too. I have a form of autism. Its certain types like I said who do and certain people.

Now you did.

This is a real and serious issue, and I think the mother is right about it being wrong to cover it up. To effectively treat such issues, they need to be researched and understood first.

Testosterone gets too much of a bad rep! It does NOT lead to violence! I think the violent people just feel more impervious or stronger, and are thus more likely to act out how they fellt all along. But testosterone is ALL OVER! Women that probably have LOW testosterone have been pretty vicious, and men that obviously have lots of testosterone have been pretty docile.

Are we all going to become like this? Am I? I don't want to be in a mental ward!

I don't really think it's fair to say, 'The monster inside my son with autism', imo, that's like saying, 'The monster inside my son who's 18' or w.e.
It's a pathetic generalization. There's millions of people with Autism and only a small percent turn out like this, just like NTs.
^IMO^.

Yet being 18 itself doesn't make anyone like this. Autism is suspected that it did in this particular case, so that's why it says '...with autism'.

That's the point I was trying to make. I think him having Autism is just as irrelevant as his age.

I am sometimes prone to very violent meltdowns. I restrain myself to an extent which prevents me from hurting anyone or myself (relatively) but none-the-less I can see how a lack of restraint would also lead someone with similar outbursts to be very dangerous. I punched my hand through a coffee table one time in a violent meltdown. I've since learned ways to stay calm and not get so violent. The only time I ever seriously injured others was out of self defense when a group of guys jumped me on the street for no reason and tried to assault me. Let me tell you when the adrenaline is pumping my strength goes up ten fold. I sent two of those guys in an ambulance. I wasn't charged with any crime either since being randomly jumped on the street by a group of guys is obviously self-defense. I beat the crap out of those guys. They will think twice before jumping another person. I'm a little taller then the guy in the story but about 10 pounds or so lighter.
