When I was a smaller kid the adults would be talking about a distant cousin or someone else around my age, and something that happened to them, so when I met the other kid I associated them with the event, which pissed 1 cousin off royally when I said "so, you've been to juvenile hall" (I was curious and wanted to know what it was like) and another time that stands out was an aborted friendship that went "(name), his name is (name) too" Me: Oooh! you're the one who got beat up last week! Facepalm was not around back then but I can do it even as I post. Thankfully I don't seem to be that clueless these days

Byron famously said "Adversity is the first path to truth." I'd like to amend that. "Truth is the surest path to adversity."
