Why do people become wacky when they encounter someone with a dianosis or that acts differently? WHy do they do outrageous stuff around them.

I do not know :?, people in general (not everyone though) seem to be unable to handle things they do not understand. This obviously includes individuals with a diagnosis or disability.

One thing I cannot stand are stupid questions based on limited understanding of a condition (my case & probably almost everyone else's here, Autism/AS/HFA, etc.). An example is "does that mean you all self mutilate or hit yourselves?" or something like, "do you have souls or beliefs" , etc.

I have met a few people who are very understanding who are NT's, but not many... :(.

So in general I prefer to be alone & ignored rather than deal w/ this kind of crap 8).

People have a lot of different motives.
Some motives are conflicting or overlapping or both.

One motive is simple innocence. For example, I have a strawberry birthmark from my toes to my hip. If I wore a bikini (I don't) you could see the very top of it. Small children have always been innocently curious. I've heard the same questions a thousand times and by now I have it down to a routine. I say:
"It's a birthmark. I was born with it. It will never go away and doesn't hurt."
They look at it and digest this information for a few seconds, then they go away satisfied.

If only I could explain Asperger's so simply, I could handle the innocents in a similar tone.

What to do with the predators, I do not know.

Mainly it is because of fear of the unknown and lack of info.

I don't tell strangers. Still get the different treatment. I don't care as long as the person isn't being rude about it or getting hostile.

seconds this.

also, because are really meaning non visible [in the physical sense] conditions and/or disabilities, they are usually only seen through behaviors which can make people look unpredictible to those who know nothing about them, physically invisible conditions can look like mental illness to the ignorant>mental illness has very bad rep in the public-its usually only heard of when someone with a mental illness has killed something or other.

When I'm talking to someone I don't know and don't like I just tell them I'm Autistic and initially they don't believe me but when I confirm and reconfirm they suddenly turn away and leave me alone.
