Getting the balance right in communication....
has always been a weak point of mine. What I am talking about is what to say and when. I am usually at the two extremes of saying too little or saying too much to compensate for being too quiet, and thus saying the most stupid, sometimes inapporpriate things.
My past experineces have taught me that I probably should have said more during a conversation, but because I didn't I looked like a fool and the conversation ended awkwardly. So next time I take things too far, I try to be witty and give an answer of substance to just about everything the other person says, and guess what, now the conversation ends awkwardly again, because I assume I said too much or something inappropriate. I just find it hard to get the balance right, when to keep quiet and when to say something.
Anyone know what I am talking about?
I understand what you're talking about. I don't know anything that could help but I do understand. Perhaps it would help if you asked someone to help you practise your communication skills? I asked a school friend (when attending school long ago) to help me and she did, I wouldn't say I'm really good at conversation now but I feel better about it now.
