Aspie Man is a webcomic that Pherious is making, and he needs any help he can get.

Quote:
The Great Aspie Man' is about a young college employee who is actually from a different planet. His planet was taken over and its inhabitants enslaved by an advanced race of aliens; the aliens needed the autistic people of the planet for making them weapons, spaceships, and new technology. However, his mother put him in a pod when he was 5 years old, and set him on a course to Earth; the Earth as we know it is the sister planet of the autistic world in which the Great Aspie Man comes from. Now, as the same aliens make their way to Earth to filter out and enslave anyone in the autistic spectrum, Great Aspie man must take a stand and stop them.

That's the general idea of the story. The website goes into further detials. I haven't seen any scripts yet, but it sounds like a good idea. ANYONE willing to help draw, give ideas, or make website designs would be much appreciated, his e-mail is on the site and his MSN name is [email protected].

Do you think there would be room for other heroes like Neuroman* and Hyperman?

*Look! On the internet! It's a geek! It's a nerd! It's Neuroman! Yes, it's Neuroman, strange visitor from WrongPlanet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of neurotypical men.... Neuroman, who can change the course of diagnoses, bend minds with his bare words, and who, disguised as Mad Jack, mild-mannered pirate psychologist and parts collector, fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the Logical Way!

Current address: The Apartment of Solitude

Hyperman hasn't got a spiel yet.

While I think that the idea for a superhero with Asperger's is a brilliant one ( and, if you look at various Marvel superheroes like Spider-Man and Cyclops, probably one that's subconsciously been implemented already ), I'm a bit concerned that the image on the Aspie Man site is a straight rip-off of Superman. An Aspie superhero, if one did exist, would probably be an extremely unique individual like no hero seen before. To just have him look like " Superman with Asperger's " makes him look too....neurotypical.

Of course, I haven't seen the final art yet, and I'm assuming the Superman images are just a promotional thing, so here's hoping that Aspie Man isn't a Clark Kent take-off, but the original character he deserves to be.

you bring up some very good points. And while Aspie Man will be loosely based on Superman (very loosely indeed), he will still maintain his original storylines and concepts. I have no fear about getting too close to the Superman storylines, though. Every superhero in past comic books have indeed left a legacy if they are still inspiring other super heroes to be created in new comics. Dont' worry. I will make him as original as I can.

Good to hear that, Steve. I look forward to reading about Aspie Man; as an Aspie who's also a fan of comics and superheroes, it seems right up my alley. It'll be good to have an officially diagnosed autistic hero, as opposed to what Aspie comics fans have done up until now ( I.E. speculating as to which superheroes have Asperger's and which don't...while I'm convinced that Spider-Man is an Aspie, the comics and movies will never confirm it ). Diversity amongst superheroes, paticularly neurological diversity, has typically been poor, so I commend you for adding this to the genre.

Anyway, good luck, and if you need further feedback, let me know...
