Inappropriate giggling

Does anyone else have the urge to giggle or laugh uncontrollably when talking about or hearing something really difficult? The other day I was telling a friend about an acquaintance whose close friend was found dead at her home just two days after she'd last seen her. I don't find the situation at all funny, but I got the urge to start laughing uncontrollably while relating it, maybe as a defence. It's not the first time I've done this. Not so long ago I was reading out a story from a paper where it describes a murderer who dismembered a body and took the body parts to various different areas. I was telling a friend about this particular story and could hardly stop myself breaking into a grin. If I was reading something like this alone I would feel really upset.

i do this a lot. i think its because i know i'm not meant to laugh, for some reason that makes it funny. as soon as i want to stop or know i really need to stop, i just go out of control!

I've been known to giggle or smile at bad news, too. I think it's because my mind tends to wander toward happier thoughts, so it's not like I'm laughing at others' misfortune, but it might seem like I am.

I once laughed hysterically when a friend made a joke about me being a nymphomaniac, (he didn't know if I was laughing or crying). It was probably out of shock or disbelief since that was just so insanely ridiculous, then I never talked to him again.

Once I told a friend that another friends mother had died (she committed suicide), he didn't believe me because I usually made jokes like this. I started laughing and couldn't stop myself.

I've done it too, sometimes I'd just laugh for no reason. Eventually, I learned to suppress the urge to ever laugh.

I have had plenty of cringe worthy moments regarding innapropriate laughing.
When I was 11 my friend's grandad had died and the way she described him lying there sounding funny and I couldn't stop giggling.

I am the type of person who would laugh in the middle of dead silence about something that happened last year

If I or someone else says something dramatic and everything goes silent, I sometimes just start laughing hysterically, cos I think, "Jesus, it's like a courtroom drama!" and I start giggling.

I've done this before, I do this in moments that are very stressful for me. Mostly it's a social stress. When I was younger some boy thought no was a yes because I started giggling like an idiot. Mostly it was in situations like that.

I've also done it while being reprimanded about something. A teacher was yelling at the class about something, and then she left in a huff about something. Everyone thought I was crying, but when she finally left I fell to the floor (literally) laughing and holding my sides.

i giggle or laugh inappropriately all the time, jsut randomly its a feeling i get, could be due to stress, due to somehting i felt when i saw it, can be just a reaction, its actually very common among individuals with autism.

It's not only when hearing something difficult, but when talking about something really serious that's bothering me.
A couple of weeks ago I told my psychologist I was depressed & tried to kill myself...then I laughed. I seriously wish I didn't but I hope she understood that I really didn't think any of it was funny. I don't know why I laugh at all the wrong times.

I usually laugh because of insignificant details. Like once I was in my social group and we were talking about cereals and then this guy spontaneously says, 'THE FROSTIE ADVERT GUY DIED!' and then he goes into detail of the death. I was laughing because he went off topic so much, because when I first heard about it I felt sorry for the guy.
Another time I was on the way home from a trip and my ass-hole Year 6 teacher forced me to eat fruit with the skin on, and I was vomiting the whole way home. I couldn't help but laugh all the way home, because I knew he probably would have got in loads of trouble for doing so, or was at least under loads of stress because he thought so. I just couldn't stop laughing xD.
Another time I was watching Little Britain, and didn't really get to laugh 'cause it was 3AM in the morning and everyone was sleeping. Then at school, in the first lesson, I kept thinking about all the other sketches, and kept on laughing out loud xD. The worse thing was people were performing their poems. So when I came on, everyone was laughing at me(forced), and I was genuinely laughing 'cause everyone was laughing, and the whole class thought I was a jerk.
There's also been countless times where I've just been laughing to my self about how much my social life sucks, LOL.
I have a really weird sense of humour. I won't laugh at a joke everyone else laughs at, but will easily laugh at a sentence which is spelt wrong, or an incorrect eBay description.
Sometimes I'll only notice how funny something is at a really random time, like maybe half way through a conversation.
I think my random laughing is the main hint I'm 'different' xD.

My family got really angry at me for laughing at a funeral at age 12 and held it against me for a while but I didn't mean to laugh. I don't know why I did it. I was afraid I would start laughing and agonized over it days before the funereal took place but when I heard these ladies singing hymns a cappella I lost it and my stifled giggles could be heard by those nearby. I was scared and nervous and hoped my cousin would start giggling too because I was afraid if I was the only one they would hate me forever but when I looked at her, all I could see was her sobbing with her head down. My heart sank for sure then. Sure enough, it took them a long time to get over it. Sometimes my mother would lay in waiting, stealthy, ready to pounce and destroy at the detection of one of my mess ups.
That was the only funeral I've ever been to and don't really feel like going to another one.
Besides that time, I had a habit of uncontrollable laughter and it drove everybody crazy. The description "giddiness" does describe it. I became giddy with laughter and they would hit me to get me to stop. Other times they yelled. It was usually during a game or a television show I was bored by. I would start laughing at something and kept on until I felt tired and strange. This is probably the thing I got in trouble over the most.
