I've never talked about this with anyone before. Whenever I'm out in public I will look around or stare at things that interest me. Sometimes when I fix my gaze in a certain direction there will be a person in my line of vision. If I look at that person for a few seconds they will notice me, make eye contact and smile. This has been happening for as long as I can remember.

Am I the only one that this happens to? Does anyone else get smiled at when they look at a stranger?

That's normal :D In fact, I smile automatically at people that look at me, one of my more NT traits.

They do it to me as well. I try to smile back but it's hit or miss. I find it very difficult to fake smiles. I can't smile for photos either, someone needs to tell a joke.

+1
I've been forced to hang out with people more lately. It happens alot with people that I've met, remember me, that I don't remember. I usually just nod. I'm not known for smiling, so I usually don't force myself too.

When I was wee something similar used to happen, except instead of people smiling at me they would ask me what the hell I was looking at. After that happened to me a few times, I took up the habit of avoiding looking at people - a habit I still have.

A drunk asked me 'what the hell are you looking at?' I was a bit startled by that, but others smile at me and say 'nice day, isn't it?' especially those up before 8am.
I return the smile, but when it's a quite good looking fella i turn to stone and my face expression doesn't change no matter how much i want it to.

I have had the what are you staring at.
But more often than not, people smile at me. Its the one little bit of body language I get, or at least know what I should do. Smile back. This has not always been the case, more like something I learned recently.

Women seem to do it more often (my lips are sealed).

Yeah, maybe not always if I look at them, but they will smile if they say something like "Nice day, isn't it?"

no, they never do. At yet I smile at them (it's a normal smile, not a kid-in-disneyland smile). Sons of b...

People seem to smile at me a lot, even when I´m not looking at them specifically. In fact, I started a thread about this awhile back. Actually, people either seem to smile at me, or stare at me with a funny look on their face- (I´m not sure what that look means, but it seems intense). Not sure why I get so many looks, I´ve been trying to figure that one out. Especially because in other situations, people act like I´m not there sometimes: bumping into me while walking, or cars speeding up while I try to cross the street...

Well, people are a mystery I guess.

No. They just stare like I am an alien. If they persist, I make faces at them.

Yes, and I smile at people a lot as well. I very often don't recognise people that I know, so I reckon it's better to smile at everyone. :D
