Why is 100 said to be the average (50th percentile) IQ?

According to what I have researched, most nations have an IQ of below 100. On a global scale, this statement would be inaccurate.

IQ=(MA/CA)*100

Chronoligical age of a 10 year old is ALWAYS 10!
Mental Age of a 10 year old is expected to be 10!

10/10=1
1*100=100

So the average IQ is 100!

If the 10 year old tested as a 15 year old, it would be:

15/10=1.5
1.5*100=150

So a 10 year old that is as smart as a 15 year old has a 150IQ.

It sounds like somebody has been mixing apples with oranges.
Garbage in, garbage out.

An IQ is a simple fraction.
Mental age over cronological age, times 100.

A five-year-old who tests like a ten-year-old would have an IQ of 200.
A ten-year-old who tests like a five-year-old would have an IQ of 50.

To say that the average IQ is anything other than 100 is self-contradictory.

How to create a valid test is another question. We love our social fictions.

85-110 is considered average. Sometimes it's 114 depending on what I read.

Times keep changing. In 1959, they lowered the IQ to 80 to be mentally ret*d so who knows before that what IQ you had to have to be MR. Then in 1992, they lowered it to 70.

IQ is nothing for me because they're just numbers. Someone can have a high IQ and still be stupid. My brother has above average intelligence and he still has done stupid things in his teens. Also someone can have a IQ of 139 and not be able to hold down a job while someone with a IQ of 71 can.

I don't think IQ determines intelligence but it does correlate with intelligence.

This is one example why IQ tests are flawed. According to this model, a 5 year old with the mental age of 7 would have a 140 IQ whereas a 10 year old with the mentality of a 12 year old would have a 120 IQ. A 12 year old with the mental age of 14 would have a 116 IQ. In all three instances is the same child 2 years ahead of the pack.

I hope that wasn't taken wrong. I wasn't attacking Timeisdead. Just questioning the source of the information.

Is this an IQ test? I have no idea what it's supposed to mean. Do you have a link that spells it out for us feeble-minded folk?

US is number 26. It would be easier if they were ranked with numbers, not letters.
Why are some of the numbers by the countries near the bottom all the same?
Once we get to North Korea, the numbers remain consistent.

Does it mean Hong Kong lost 2 points between 2003 and 2006? Japan, New Zealand, and Sweden all lost 4. Norway lost five points. That is if that's what the last number means. Wouldn't it be something if a nation gained five points in three years?

Not much of a problem - a 15 year old with the mentality of an 18 year old wouldn't be that big a deal but a 1 year old with the mentality of a 4 year old would be amazing. It's the relative difference not the exact difference that counts - and anyway it hasn't been figured that way in a long time.

Well when I did an IQ test the average was 90.

I can understand why they use 100. It's because it's the normal IQ for your age any given age. 1/1 = 100, 2/2 = 100 3/3 = 100 etc. If you are ten and have an IQ of 90, you are below what is average for your age. 10 with an IQ of 130 is above average for your age.
According to the chart most nations do have an IQ below 100. But that isn't unusual because most people prolly have one around 90.

Hmmm, no wonder so many scams come from Nigeria. With low life expectancy and low mental age, it's almost entirely a nation of children!
