I tend to repeat stuff alot which I've done ALOT today LOL! I was curious if anyone else did this. Also I'm not a Yes/No person example: Dad:Are you going to take that trash out? Me: When we go to leave. (I don't respond a simple yes or no LOL!) I hope I'm not the only one with these issues. :-)

I don't know why, but sometimes when I say something I will say it three times in quick succession (for example, when meaning to say, "hello there," I might say, "hello there-hello there-hello there." I've no control over this quirk, but it's not so common as to cause me embarrassment.

Yes I have a habit of repeating things, and I annoy myself with it.
Yesterday I was filming my friends on a camera and one of them was pretending to be mad so I shook the camera so it looked dramatic, so I said "I shook the camera for dramatic effect" and then I said about a million times afterwards, sometimes I feel I'm not heard so I just repeat the same thing to people for ages.

I know I do, because my husband, and others complain about it. I really didn't ever notice it until I started re-reading my posts on here. I know I have to do it out loud, because I even accidentally do it in print. I'll either say the same thing, but in different ways ( like rearranging the words in the sentence, but it meaning the same thing) repetitively, or I'll say something, add a couple sentences inbetween, then repeat the first sentence again at the end.

This is EXACTLY what my posts are like, I repeat the same stuff over and over again. Then I reread them and edit them, and take half of the stuff I wrote out!

I am also guilty of this

I don't do this, but my husband (who does not have autism) does this repeating constantly, and I forgot to mention on the meltdown & tantrum thread it is another trigger for a meltdown for me. I only need to hear something once to get it due to the nature of my savant photographic memory abilities, and when other people repeat stuff especially to the extent my husband does this (he has a TBI brain-glitch), it drives me Bat-shit Crazy ! Into a complete tizzy and total, utter frustration, and makes me want to pull all my hair out ! The moment I start to hear a second repetition, I tend to exit the room.

When others don't indicate they've registered my words, I repeat them until they give me a sign. I remember doing this since nursery school. Mostly, I don't say much at all because it's tiring and give minimal responses.

I've been told that I do this. If no one responds to what I said, I assume no one heard it. So, I repeat and repeat.

Great post, OP. I definitely very often drive people crazy with making the same comment over and over and over until it is acknowledged. I've learned to curb the tendency somewhat, but it's difficult for me to do so. I think it's kind of funny, though, that NTs have trouble with AS types seeming inadequately responsive to other people, but this common trait of "needing" some kind of "copy that, roger, over and out" is part of how we in turn behave.

Sister's BF HATES this. Mum adjusted to it early though, so that's not to much of an issue. She knows to give me some sort of sign that she heard.

It was kind of a pain at work though, because customers thought I was a little... off. I think most of them are off though... they all repeated the same stupid questions.

This thread is amazing! Just another discovery Im-not-the-only-one thingy!
Yes I do repeat myself often and over and over, mostly verbally, as I constantly need to confirm what I say and also to "tuck in" what Im saying

Its the exactly the same when others talk too, I always say "huh?" like I want people to repleat what they just said - just to have it confirmed that I got the message properly.
When I grew up my mum thought this was very annoying, she thought I was nonchalant and didnt pay enough attention. But I did and tried, I just have hard to get information...

And now when I see people here mention they do it when writing I just realise I do that too, I also constantly have to edit my posts due to repeating and language failures

My husband says that I keep repeating things. I have no idea why. And as I see it, there is no such thing as a yes or no answer to questions. (obviously I never liked the true of false questions on test). this drives my husband nuts, becasue I can never answer just yes or no. And for every question , there is usually another good question to verifiy that I understood the original question.

WOW! I always say "huh" too!! My parents say I don't pay attention etc. :-( It gets upsetting but from reading posts on here from other Aspies I need to do some major changes and accept myself instead of feeling bad for my traits. :-)

Yes I do. I'm not always aware of it either.
