I'm currently in higher education and as part of my course, i'm entitled to learning support which at first i took up cause i thought it would actually help. To a point it did but there does seem to be a point when learning support becomes a chore, its probably just me but Ive had bad experiences with learning support. Theres a point when i just find the tutors to be patronising intentionally or not, either way i usually end up getting annoyed after say 4 sessions and just stop going
So what are peoples experiences with learning support, do u find it actually helps or do you feel like me and end up just getting bored and annoyed
I attended learning support in secondary school for "anxiety" reasons (they didn't realize I had AS at that point) and I found it a degrading, uninspired waste of my precious time.
Seriously, it was pretty shocking, all they did was shove me in a room with a dyslexic kid, a deaf kid and someone with epilepsy. Then the support assistants gave me a maths book aimed at 9-year-olds and basically gave me the message that they didn't want me there and I was to shut the f*** up.
Then they moved me onto a specialist...and I liked her until one day I was skipping class and I heard her bitching about me; she actually used the word "pathetic". That's when I gave up completely.
I hope your experience with support is better though, it's supposed to be better in higher education.
