Dr. Catherine Lord at the University of Michigan, the creator of the ADOS, has created a new diagnostic scale called the ADOS-T (toddler) for use in children aged 12 months to 30 months. This is significant because the original ADOS isn't of much use in children younger than 30 months.
This diagnostic tool was first presented at the 2006 International Meeting for Autism Research (IMFAR) in Montreal. However, it has only been validated more recently.
I happen to know, Katie Gotham, one of the researchers who worked on this project, so hopefully I can post some more information on it in the future.

Wikipedia: ADOS I am thinking of starting a new Wikipedia page specific to the ADOS-T.
Abstract: The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule--Toddler Module: A New Module of Standardized Diagnostic Measure for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Diagnosing autism in toddlers: A new diagnostic tool -ADOS Toddler Module- will improve clinical judgements.
