This from someone on the spectrum I met today in person. And WP is supposed to be one of the least "bashy" spectrum forums out there!

Is it just in our nature to argue and get riled up? :)

I think most of us are just passionate and keen for discussion and debate. Maybe that strikes some people as argumentative and negative. Or maybe some people are too sensitive.

A lot of people on WP seem to fall into the unfortunate mode of thinking where Aspies are somehow a superior race, or the next stage in evolution, or something like that. Because of this, WP has a somewhat negative reputation among some crowds.

Funny, I really haven't met those folks for the most part. Most people here seem to be extremely reasonable, sensible, and have thought provoking and intelligent things to say.

There are definitely folks with an agenda to "bash NTs," though. I have no desire to do that. Then again, I get the impression that I've had it much easier than many folks. Who knows? I might feel the same way under different circumstances.

I don't like to really debate much on forums. People over forums have a thicker igno-shield (new term for ignorance shield!), and waste time. If you want a challenge, sure, but I just want people to understand my perspective... I'm not looking for enjoyment from it.

People who live with me get fed up because I continually press points. They think I like to argue, but I don't. I like to make things clear, bring about an understanding. My perspective, or arguments, are often misunderstood, which leads me to re-explaining myself and prolonging an argument and people just want it to end; they don't care.

I think you nailed me dead on with "passionate". I have a perspective and I just want to share it with others and help them understand, but I DON'T like arguing.

To be honest, I don't see any excuse to bash NT's. Just because a person has had bad experiences with people it doesn't give them the right to generalize & say that all NT's are bullies, annoying or illogical (they're just a few things that I've seen written).
Anyway, I agree that WP is generally a nice community but like with every community, there are exceptions. One word people should learn to implement into their lives...tolerance. It goes both ways.

That's the real explanation.

Personally I love arguing. I get understimulated without arguments.

As for the NT-bashing, my own observations tell me it's so widespread here because of a fairly low functioning, stereotype-mafia forcing their rigid viewpoints through tyranny by majority. These are also the most oversensitive people. Their entire world crumble when the clinical aspects of the diagnosis, as experienced in their imaginary worlds, are put in question.

It's a little bit like a sect:

"Hail AS"

""Hail!"

"I'm a stereotype"

"NT's hurt me today"

"I only want peace and love for the world but no one can understand me and they hurt me with their misunderstandings"

"I'm so good, but these evil NT's won't see it"

"I had a meltdown today when an evil NT failed to understand the deep love I feel for all of mankind"

"Aspies are incapable of comitting violent crimes. Anyone who do so must have been misdiagnosed"

And so it goes on and on and on, day after day in new threads which are exact copies of the old ones just worded a bit differently.

WP is an awesome forum to practice social skills and learn how to interact with different personalities.

If you are overly sensative and easily perceive threats from peoples comments, then WP should be a second choice forum until you develop 'thicker skin'.

I like Orwell's observations of some people on the site. I agree totally, they idea we AS are superior and an evolutionary step up amuses me. The evolutionary theory is as believable as a post I read stating that Aspies are overly attractive.

This forum is tame, have you ever visited Dailystrength site and visited the Depression forum. It is pure carnage, lots of narcistic personalities, bullies and stalkers ready to destroy fragile personalities. I consider the behaviour of WP's ASD community well behaved and usually constructive. At times we take things too literally and this does cause the occassional problem.

My first impression when I got here after reading a few threads was, "Wow, there are so many people taking other people literally! It's amazing they get along at all."

Compare WP to this place-

http://www.kittyradio.com/soapbox/

It's not autistic forum. Even though one person might think taking words literally as a criteria for not being able to get along with others, I look at forum link posted and think the same "these people just attack each other, how can they get along?"

It's all about your preferences and mindset. Then if you really think about it, everyone in this world has lack of empathy in one form or another.

Hah... you took me literally. Sorry about that. :) I could see that people got along; I was simply somewhat amused by it.

Can you tell me how I was supposed to take it? Not using bad tone of text just curious what you really meant.

I wasn't truly amazed that people here got along with others because they had a tendency to take each other literally. I imagine most people here are aware if they have a tendency to do that and don't take offense. The "it's amazing that... at all" is often used exaggeratorily (wow, that's not a word).

That's a good way to put it.

My NT side must be showing tonight. :)
