Another thread about how awesome magnesium is....WOW....My VERY AS mom..who thinks that the vast majority of Autistic Spectrum behavior stems from improper diet and vaccinations and environmental pollutants...may be just slightly off track..BUT I must say that since I have been taking a magnesium potassium supplement my frontal lobe has been awful perky and I have been able to think more linearly and feel less stress and sensory overload etc...than I can recall....in a vary long time...

I know I had a magnesium thread not too long ago...I am just really pleased...magnesium is much cheaper and less dangerous than addrall, and for me has a very similar effect.

Is the doctor prescribing you the Magnesium? are your blood levels being checked? You know it can mess up your electrolytes, right?

Ah, Epsom Salts, the old family remedy for migraines. It does work.
I never thought of taking it all the time.

Now I need to check it out. Both the supplements and the fire. I can try the fire in the back yard, but about the supplements, does anyone have some good links?

I can't afford a doctor.
How does it mess up your elecrolytes? Does it deplete them?

I am taking a potassium magnesium supplement I bout from the health food store.

But I will try to set it on fire.

Magnesium can work miracles and also have a good effect on social anxiety and stress in general, not just aspie related. It can help anyone.

Btw, I think your mom has a point. I also believe bad diet, pollutions etc are the cause of autism in many cases.

Well I thought this thread would be about settng light to metallic magnesium, but the topic of the electrolytes in the human body is interesting.

I know that the levels of sodium, potassium, lithium, calcium and magnesium in humans are important. I think it might be best to get medical advice as lithium and magnesium are chemically quite similar (a so called diagonal relationship).

I am not able to offer expert advice on this topic, but there is a possibility that by increasing your magnesium intake that it might alter the biochemistry of the lithium in your body. Lithium must be kept within the right concentration range.

Too little Li and you get things like mania and the manic part of bipolar. Too much Li and you can get psychosis. I would ask a medical doctor for advice before taking magnesium. I know that for people on lithium that they need to be tested on a regular basis to measure their electrolyte levels.

I have a hunch I might be magnesium deficient...seeing as it makes such a dramatic difference when I take the supplements.

The supplement pills won't burn if that's what you're thinking. You need pure magnesium ground up into a powder for it to ignite.

There's been a study or studies about that additional intakes of magnesium helped some children with AD(H)D.

So you're saying that I can become less AS AND more manic by taking too much magnesium? That sounds brilliant, if I'm bipolar I might as well be on the happy side of it. Besides, life has become such a mind f**k that it makes sense to mindf**k myself to balance it out :)

I have AS/ADD. Bummer then...that I can't just take magnesium and continue to have good results with being able to focus and not feel tired and scattered and overwhelmed. Stinking American Health care system. "Ask a Doctor" means something like upwards of $400 probably. :? I have somewhat complex and inter-connected issues..I would like to perhaps see some sort of holistic doctor sometime...but so expensive...afraid to even attempt :(

magnesium [with B6] is widely used by Auties,as doctors think it reduces some of the worst symptoms but having been on it for a long time now,no one has noticed any it less, it probably works best in those who are lacking in the stuff.
One thing though-the GP told self/staff he will only prescribe it at a small amount because of the damage it can do [think he had said something to do with kidney],make sure to not take too much of it.
