Fraser

The longest river in British Columbia, and one of Metro Vancouver's most vital waterways. In recent years, several detached human feet in tennis shoes have washed up on beaches as far south as Tacoma, Washington. It is now believed that the source of the feet is this river. According to the popular theory, the feet belonged to people who committed suicide by jumping off the Alex Fraser Bridge, between Richmond and Delta. After a period of decomposition, the feet would rise to the surface, carried by the buoyancy of the shoes, and float out on currents toward the Strait of Georgia and Puget Sound.

Jordan

The river where Jesus was baptised in the New Testament, the Jordan River forms the eastern boundary of northern Israel and the West Bank. While parts of the river have been preserved for baptisms, the region between the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea is greatly endangered by human activity-- political conflicts, damming and pollution, combined with the natural high rate of evaporation, have resulted in some sections drying up into salt flats and the entire natural ecosystem being disrupted.
