I was a vegetarian starting at age 15 or 16 for about 7-8 years. For some reason I went back to being an omnivore. :oops: Wish I hadn't done that, but I was very unhealthy as a vegetarian when I was younger. Of and on I tried to go back with little luck. Am managing much easier than ever before this time though, and I am being super healthy, so I think it can last this time. I am doing it for two reasons mainly: one, I love animals so much and often connect with them more easily than people, so I can no longer justify eating them. Also, I am a big environmental advocate--will even be getting my graduate degree in Environmental Studies, so I thought I would practice what I preach and do my part for the planet. Health is good bonus, but not the main reason for my decision. What about you??

Okay, that was longer than I thought--hopefully I am still 534! LOL

533 [Almost forgot!]

My first few years of vegetarianism I was pretty unhealthy about it as well. Congrats on becoming vegan.

Reasons I don't eat meat: 1) animals are adorable 2) We have no inherent need to consume meat to be healthy 3) Environment 4) Don't really like the taste of meat

I really don't have one driving reason why I don't eat meat, other than the taste! But all the other reasons are still important.

And I'm unhealthy in so many of my other activities that I can't say I do it for health with a straight face! [Although I'm healthier than I give myself credit!]

And good luck in grad school!
