Wolf 359 is a red dwarf star approximately 7.8 light-years from Earth. It is one of the closest stars to Earth, beaten out only by Proxima and Alpha Centauri and Barnard's Star. It is one of the faintest and lowest-mass stars known; its photospheric temperature is only about 2800 degrees Kelvin, cool enough for chemical compounds to form and survive. In fact, spectroscopic analysis has shown absorption lines for water and titanium (II) oxide, among other compounds. It has a stronger magnetic field than the Sun, and due to the intensity of its field is also a flare star, throwing out bursts of gamma and X-rays. It is less than a billion years old, and no planets or planetismal debris have been noted around it.

Wolf 359 is also the site of a battle between the Starfleet of the United Federation of Planets and a single Borg cube conveying Locutus of Borg to Sector 001, and Earth. 40 ships were assembled to fight there; 39 of them were destroyed, with no noticeable damage to the cube. It was later stopped in Earth orbit by the crew of the starship Enterprise, who had recaptured Locutus (formerly Capt. Jean-Luc Picard), and found a backdoor command to shut the cube down. (Sadly, it automatically self-destructed before it could be examined by Starfleet engineers.)

Year: a planet's period of revolution around a star, for us, Earth's - whether by design intentional of the calendar or via the seasons indirectly.

The Zodiac is a series of constellations that appear in the Solar system's ecliptical plane (the plane in which most of the planets, including Earth, orbit the Sun). Classically, it has been regarded as having twelve constellations, a pattern established during the days of the dominance of astronomy by the ancient city of Babylon; however, due to precession, it can now be considered to include 13 (adding Ophiuchus, the Serpent-Bearer, to the classical twelve). Since the distinction between science and superstition was pretty well blurred well into the 17th century, Babylonian study of constellations often focused around their supposed magical properties, a study which survives today as the pseudoscience of astrology (which has narrowed its focus to the constellations, or "signs", of the Zodiac, which supposedly predict the future).
