Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides wasn't the first film sequel to be based on a novel that was unrelated to the previous films. Don Q: Son of Zorro, sequel to The Mark of Zorro, was based on a novel titled Don Q's Love Story, which had nothing to do with Zorro; and Die Hard 2 was based on a novel titled 58 Minutes, which had nothing to do with Die Hard.

Johnny Depp originally announced that he had no desire to appear in On Stranger Tides. Apparently the $55.5 million paycheck (! !) changed his mind, because he later signed on before there was even a finished script.

In the Batman mythology, The Mark of Zorro was the film that Bruce Wayne saw with his parents immediately before they were killed by a mugger. Whether they saw the 1920 or 1940 version depends on who's writing the flashback.

Johnny Depp was almost fired from the first 'Pirates' film when certain Disney executives saw his first scenes....there were Serious Discussions.

Wiser heads prevailed, he was allowed to do his job as he saw fit, and a hit film was made!

Johnny Depp has twice recorded with British band Oasis. Most notably, he plays lead slide guitar on the track "Fade In-Out", from the 1997 album "Be Here Now". Noel Gallagher, Oasis's lead guitarist, was allegedly too drunk to perform it himself, so celebrity pal Depp stepped in and nailed the lead on one take!

Who else was famously, publicly drunk/stoned onstage, falling down, forgetting lyrics, and even vomiting onstage?

And STILL sold millions of records?

Actually, Rod Stewart is specifically who I meant.....though there MAY have been a bit of chemical influence detectable during the other gentlemen's performances.

Patti LaBelle or Donna Summer?

Patti LaBelle was the first to record 'Lady Marmalade', a song about a New Orleans prostitute.

It was a big hit, but there was some criticism that she was glamorizing prostitution. Her

response was that she did not speak French and therefore did not know what the song

was about. Unfortunately, part of the song is in English, and the words are:

'Marmalade comes from Old New Orleans, struttin' her stuff on the street.....'

And:

'Hey, big boy, wanna give it a go?'

There's a live Doors album called Live in Boston 1970 in which Jim Morrison is pretty wasted the whole time. The liner notes in the CD booklet are basically just quotes from the other band members describing how trashed he was.

I also recall something about some Creed fans filing a class action lawsuit over a show in which Scott Stapp was falling down drunk the whole time.

I had not even thought of Morrison...you are so right...he/they (The Doors) still sell records.


He (Jim Morrison) was legally married to Pamela when he died, so she was his legal next-of-kin.

So she inherited everything he had and any future income from anything that he had rights to.

She died of a heroin overdose (surprise).

She never remarried, or had children, or a last will and testament specifying anyone else, so her parents were her next-of-kin, so they inherited everything that she had rights to, including income from anything pertaining to Jim Morrison.

His parents got nothing.

Actually, I read that he was NOT legally married to Pamela, and both sets of parents had a HUGE battle in court, for Jim's estate, because he left everything to her----that included "future gains". Pamela's parents won, proving they had a Common-law marriage. You're right about her parents getting everything, and his parents getting zilch, though.

W.C. Fields Syndrome is another name for Rhinophyma, a reddened nose associated with alcoholism.

Bruce Geller, creator of Mission: Impossible, was sued for allegedly plagiarizing an earlier TV series titled 21 Beacon Street. He claimed to have never heard of the show, and said that his actual source of inspiration was the heist film Topkapi.

Laurence Heath, story editor for Beacon, later worked on about two dozen episodes of Mission, variously as writer and producer.

In between the two shows, Heath was known for something else: stabbing his wife to death. He was declared legally insane and spent 14 months in a mental hospital before taking up his writing career again.

Speaking of popular TV shows that had similar predecessors, Law & Order existed (more or less) back in 1963 as Arrest & Trial. Dick Wolf, creator of Law & Order, didn't just steal the format; he stole the title, using it for another show which combined actual trial footage with re-enactments.
