Hi enviro, :D

I hope you enjoy your time off, and I hope you 'heel' quickly. :P

I have a bit of work to catch up on, and some language study to do, then I shall go through the other threads.

The weather back here is very stormy and cold. I can't believe I was on a tropical island in a string bikini just a day ago. Now I'm wearing a wooly jumper and a hat!

another welcome back hug!

the crystal clear water and fish sound so great. hopefully you didn't find worms in coconuts?
i took my dog on a walk by the beach a few times, no clear water, yet super crowded.

it's still rather hot and humid here but today was thankfully cooler than yesterday. got a new jacket with an old name patch on the back and wrote "ouvrir ton coeur" on it. :P

Went to Rarotonga. Small island, only two hours round on a scooter. Everything pretty run down and poor. But spectacular scenery, we sat on our balcony sipping pina coladas and watched whales go past. Swam in crystal clear lagoons with beautiful fish. It was lovely.

Rarotonga, eh? Glad you enjoyed your trip. Interesting to hear your description of everything being run down and poor: would it put you off recommending the place to others? It looks really nice on those Air NZ ads.

^ I would definitely still recommend Rarotonga to other people.

One thing I loved about it is that ownership of the land has to stay within families. So along quite a few stretches of beach which are like paradise, there are just old shacks. In a lot of other places those would have been knocked down and replaced with faceless hotels, so it was nice that it kept the spirit of the island.

I am sure there must be a few non rundown places left, but we stayed in a 4 star resort (and I read the reviews of a few others). The showers were from the seventies, the TV's were from the eighties. Some maintenance had been done, but you could just see that a lot of stuff had been slapped together. Certainly not my idea of four star. Maybe if you went to the five star luxury resorts it would be better. But when you sit on your balcony and watch whales go past, and go for a swim on crystal clear lagoons, you really can't complain too much. 8)

This place was really interesting:

Such experiences would mostly be pleasant, having the opportunity to meet some of the local non human residents... :D

I saw one small gecko at the hotel when we arrived. No other bugs to speak of.

The local dogs didn't seem to wear collar, or be behind fences very often. On the other hand, they didn't seem to leave their properties either. Laid back and relaxed like the locals.

Your dog must have been glad to see you back!

On the other hand, the cat probably just thought "oh, so you're back, are you?" :P

I saw him. Last night on, I call him Pekka. Must be a male wolf, two meters, tail to nose. As tall as me. Makes two of us Pekka now.

He will feed on my hand. Just wait. Patiently. I am a big guy, I am not the first to run. You just wait, some day I will be feeding a wild wolf by my hand.
