"Time dilation!" yelled Quatermass, and everything slowed to a crawl. As in continental drift crawl. He ran at Dibble and picked her up bodily. As she entered his personal time field, she quickly realised what had happened, and beat her fists on him yelling "Lemme go!"

((Sorry for the powerplaying here, Kezzstar. I'm just trying to be chivalrous))

Quatermass looked behind him, and saw the monster starting to speed up.

Damn, it can do time dilation too?

He dumped Dibble as gently behind the wall as possible, where she slowed back down again, outside his personal time field. As the creature split off from the monster came for Dibble, Quatermass yelled "5% EON Blast!! !". Energy blasted out and vapourised much of the creature. Time wound right back up to normal, and Quatermass was faced with a very angry Dibble.

"Look, Dibble, don't do anything that stupid again! If we're lucky, that fellow will blast that creature out of existence. If he doesn't, well, will you be able to take on that thing? Even if it's your father?"

((No problem, I actually enjoy seeing how others interpret my character. I'm a curious critter y'see))

"I just want to know what he did to Tom." Dibble said, angrily. "I know he did something. I know it I know it I KNOW IT!"

Fury swept her again, and she went hyper. She wasn't thinking straight, and blasted pure energy at her father, wiping him off the monster and leaving him gasping with the last breaths of life.

Every memory of her father putting her down, of hating him, of her beloved Tom, of everything, flowed out of her mind and into her vision. She landed, panting, while Selvaran continued battling the monster that was left behind.

"It's in the bear....he's in...I must destroy the bear..." Dibble's father died, reaching for Dibble's bear.

Dibble broke down and cried.

He's in the bear?

Quatermass looked at the toy teddy bear. It seemed to be the absolute archetype of teddy bears.

But now was not the time. He'd read Terry Pratchett (and in all the universes in the multiverse, had once ended up on the Discworld), and he took Rincewind's philosophy in many cases. Running away was important, and not as much running to as running from....

He whirled Chronos through the air and yanked Dibble, who was clutching the teddy bear, to her feet.

"Come on! That bastard might come back, and in any case, we have a calamity to avoid..."

He pulled Dibble through the rent in time....

...and Dibble blinked in amazement. It was the same street, but the buildings had blackened walls and broken windows.

"10 minute time-slash, no spatial displacement." explained Quatermass. "Looks like our friend killed that monster..."

((Roxas_XIII, I'm just making a temporal anomaly to speed up our part of the story. Feel free to include your story of how you defeated the monster...))

Dibble shook herself. She held her bear to her heart.

Then she looked up. The sun was rising over the distant mountains.

"I like sunlight." she said out loud. She looked at the bear. Then, without warning, she fell asleep.

"ZZZZZzzzz." her snoring seemed enough to wake the entire dimension.

Then the bear's head turned and looked at Quatermass.

"It's me Q...It's me...Tom...use Chronos! !!" the bear's thought's projected into his mind.

Huh?

What was with the bear, thought Quatermass. And how did it know him? Use Chronos? That could be dangerous...

...and then he realised what he could do with it. Biomorphological state restoration. The restoration of bodies without affecting memories. He had never done it before with Chronos, and to other people, although that was effectively what happened every time he was killed by something.

After a few minutes of concentration, Quatermass leapt at the two prone figures, Chronos flashing, Quatermass just a blur around the two figures, before a blast of blue-flecked white light threw him into a wall, where he slid down and looked at the broiling light that resulted.

Will it be enough? thought Quatermass as he winced from the bruises he just sustained.

Dibble screamed in joy. A tall man threw back his head, and looked around.

"Dibble?" he looked at the clown-faced monkey, who looked positively overjoyed.

"Tom!" she leapt into his arms. The blast had affected her too-she looked more human, apart from the tail, the clown make up and the hand-like feet.

"Remember me, Quatermass? The kid who always beat you back when we were in training?" Tom smiled.

The bear had been affected too. Dibble's 'big magic' had expanded her soul, making sleep and rationality difficult, but now the 'big magic' lived in the bear, giving it life.

"Mamma!" it cried. Dibble went to tend to it, while Tom looked at Quatermass.

"There's trouble coming." he said.

Quatermass looked at Tom, rather puzzled.

"I'm sorry. Do I know you? It's probably been milennia..."

((Sorry Kezzstar, I'm just making as though Quatermass has forgotten Tom. Quatermass has been travelling over millennia. That, plus repeated disintegrations and blunt force head trauma, well, I'm surprised he remembers his own name. So, don't be offended...))

((Good idea))

Tom sighed. He raised his arms, and lightening zapped Quatermass right in the middle of his forehead.

Didn't do much, except cause a pimple.

"Great, I'm rusty." Tom groaned.

"You two know each other?" Dibble asked.

"Yeah, we were best friends. Remember when your father trapped me in the bear, and my will said to send my belongings to 'Q'?" Tom asked.

"So this is 'Q'. I didn't realise you were that old." Dibble said off-handedly.

Tom really doesn't appreciate being called old.

"Ow! That ---ing hurt!" yelped Quatermass. There was something nagging at the back of his mind, but what? He couldn't remember Tom. In fact, he couldn't remember the training. Only his cerebellum remembered the movements given to him by training.

"Listen, Tom.... I've been disintegrated, crushed and nuked, had my face literally smeared across a wall like butter on bread, my digestive tract inverted and ejected through my mouth, AND I had to listen to 100 days non-stop muzak. So you'll forgive me if I don't remember a friend. However, you are in need of help. And that's what I try to do: help."

He frowned.

"Q? Did I use to look like Major Boothroyd?"

"Yeah." laughed Tom. "Used to call you Major Pain. "

Tom sighed.

"So...it's all happened to you too. Add being attacked by soul-gobblers to my list. Here, I'll fix you up this time." Tom focused again, this time the lightening hit Quatermass in his eyes, which glazed over.

"I hope that worked. A lot of things are going wrong. Someone's messing with the dimensions, which is probably why Q can't remember a thing." Tom hugged Dibble with one arm.

((Sorry, Kezzstar, going to have to thwart you. ))

"ARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!! !! !" yelled Quatermass. His head went all "Jacob's Ladder", which was perhaps more impressive as his time dilation seemed to have kicked in, making his head shake all the more rapid.

Suddenly, it stopped, and he looked at Tom.

"You're giving me a headache. I am going to try and give you help whether I know you or not. But can you stop trying to make my head go ker-plooey? Major Pain indeed. Was it because you used to cause me pain?"

Suddenly, Quatermass' time sense reeled like he was slapped.

"Damn, did you feel that? Uh, do you read me, "Major Tom"?"

((Pun there))

((Sorry if my character seems off. I just killed one of Mum's car's headlights trying to park, I cried the whole way home))

"Oops....I was never good at this. Where's a healer?"

Meanwhile, Dibble had gone up and slapped Quatermass senseless.

"You're in danger too it seems." she said. She yawned loudly.

"Sleepy?" Tom picked her up. She ran her fingers through his long hair and touched his beard. Soon, she was asleep, with her bear in her arms.

"Let's go Dopey." Tom lifted Quatermass up by the arm and took them both to a house that still seemed inhabitable.

Meanwhile, Dibble's father's associates learned of what had happened. They were furious that Tom and Quatermass, the biggest threats to the soul-gobblers, were still alive.

Marie moaned a bit, looking to the skillet still roasting the delictable meats and whined much like a pup would. Poor thing didn't even get to eat yet after being frozen for a long time and now she was going to have to be on the run? She paused, looking to the multitudes of grease that crackled and drooled.

"Awww man, can't I have a bit of a bite first?" Marie asked "I'll be starving if I have to run on an empty stomach."

It must have been hours later when Myrrhdyn opened her eyes and came out of her self induced trance state...it had been a long time since that had happened, and most likely had resulted from the onslaught of various invisible powers around her when the trolls attacked. Rubbing the usual gooey substance from the corners of her eyelids, she looked around slowly, realising that she was entirely alone...no sign of Meth nor of anyone else; in fact, all was deathly silent in the vicinity. Calmly, and shaking her head slightly, she walked onwards, for her house was only 4 streets away.

She had little doubt that someone or other would be waiting for her there...there always seemed to be some overwhelming need for her healing capabilities, but on this occasion, she wasn't sure she would be able to supply. Going into such a trance always seemed to use a substantial portion of her magical abilities and she would require some assistance from another sensitive to bring her back up to her full strength.

As she reached her house, she noticed that several people seemed to be in the area, and squinted in an attempt to make out their faces. Coming to a standstill, she noticed that he door lay open and instantly became alert, not to mention irritated at the invasion of her privacy. Standing motionless, she waited to see if anyone emerged or indeed, approached her.

Sindri paused. "You'll have to take it with you, and eat on the journey," He said sternly as he quickly looked in the kitchen cupboards, and picked out some supplies, "Let's go."

Irial, who had been silent until this point, withdrew her sword from the bat's neck, and looking it sternly in the eye, said,
"If your master decides to follow us, she'll have more things bothering her than a sword to her neck." Sindri then threw it out the window.
Looking to Marie and Sindri, she grabbed her pack, nodded at them and said quietly,"Yeah, let's get out of here."

The three left the old mansion and entered the forest.

Quatermass woke up groggily in the house. He saw Tom and Dibble looking at him. And he still had a headache. He had never checked whether Myrrhdyn was back yet. He grabbed Chronos and whipped open a space portal.

"Sorry. Must dash!" apologised Quatermass as he leapt through the portal. Between the zapping that Tom gave him, and the slapping senseless, he needed a healer. He would be back before long. To make sure that fellow Tom couldn't follow him, he sealed the space portal himself.

He saw Myrrhdyn before him. He'd only remembered her since he had a card, but he must've picked that up in the last century of travelling or so. If Tom was right about their freindship, then it must've been millennia since their last meeting, maybe even millions of years. Quatermass couldn't remember his own age, his parents and family. He knew who he had been trained by, but only because people remarked on the fact that he could only be a student of Gint-Li. Quatermass didn't remember him. Or Tom. He barely remembered anyone he met more than 200 years ago.

"Hello, Myrrhdyn. Been a while, hasn't it?"

He clutched his head. No mere veneer of vanity this was, as the latest jump had exacerbated his headache.

"Owwwww....."

Myrrhdyn was about to simply go inside, since no-one seemed to have become aware of her presence, when a figure appeared before her so suddenly, she leapt back a good few feet and made as if to clutch her moonstone dagger, when she remembered she hadn't carried that with her for years. Taking a deep breath, she wiped her now sweaty hands on her robe and took a good look at the person who had startled her so... he seemed somewhat familiar in a way she could not define, yet physically...she didn't know him.

Taking a step closer, she narrowed her eyes and scrutinised his face, even looking into his eyes in hopes of identifying him. She was about to admit defeat when something stirred in her mind...a memory from too many years ago to even attempt to count them. She was, afterall, ageless so long as she had purpose on this earth. She could not die from things that would kill most mortals, although she could come close to it. Some would say this was a curse, but she knew means should life become too much of a burden on her.

'So, you did return afterall', she said softly, '236 years too late', she added in an undertone, lowering her eyes slightly to study the ground at her feet. Her head lifted and she again looked at him, showing mild concern as his hands gripped his head and a pained expression crossed his face.

Stepping a little closer, she pulled his hands away and looked at the area he had been clutching, noting a rather obvious lump and some congealed blood. Slight nerves reared up within her belly as she wondered if she had the resources to complete this healing, but she stamped them back down and started walking towards her doorway, 'Well, you had better come inside... would you mind telling me just what you have been doing with your head?'

"236 years? It's been only, hmmm....."

Quatermass staggered after Myrrhdyn.

"103 years, 2 months and 10 days, for me. I know that because I made a notation on my relative chronometer and your card..."

He showed a watch on his arm, a tangled fusion of digital, analogue, and magical watch parts, battered by about two centuries of use (it was only about 2 centuries old, though it had travelled billions of years) and wear, and unreadable to anyone but him.

"As to what I've been doing with my head? Well the usual. It's what other people actually do to it that's the problem. Even Jack Ketch had a go at it, and wasn't he surprised that when he started carrying my head up to the Tower, having done a botched job of severing it, and I said, 'Could you just drop the whole thing?' He was gibbering earlier, but I meant with his fear of crowds and sharp objects, not to actually drop my head. And you must be slipping, Myrrhdyn. Someone put a specific matter condensor in your room. It was making ogres at a fair rate of knots. Did you put up those extra magic inhibitors?"

Quatermass paused for breath...

The beams of sunlight shone through the trees as the party walked into the northglade forest. They were quite visible at this point, walking along a dirt path, crossing the winding stream as they went. The manor stood 300 metres to the south west, and it was disappearing from view quickly. Then, over the small wooden bridge, the path came to a crossroads, with a signpost.

To the west the sign pointed- Northern highway(3 quarters of a mile)
To the north- The village of Greystone (10 Miles)
To the south was the city.
To the east- Krientor(1 Mile)

Sindri looked at the signpost, and said "We are headed for Greystone, but we'd better be careful, we are probably being watched by spies at this very moment. It should take us no longer than 4 Hours to get there, if we make haste."

Irial scratched her head, thinking about the best possible route.
"Personally, I don't feel comfortable walking in broad daylight for four hours with people possibly watching us. I feel exposed, even now, just standing here. I think Krientor is a good place to lose our enemies, considering its proximity, but it's a little out of the way. Perhaps Greystone is a better idea, it's larger and we can conduct our business and leave quickly."
Irial looked up, and to her horror, she saw a bat flying directly overhead.
