This is actually an enlarged section of a photograph, which gives it a painterly quality.The story is the lighthouse keeper heard a helicopter and thought it was the rescue helicopter but it was actually the photographer, Jean Guichard. He ducked back in before he got swept away. Looking at this gives me a sense of vertigo.

He was also lucky the concrete holding the bricks had set.
