Who said the Beatles were more innovative? Have you really studied the music of the period? The Beatles were great, sure... but the Kinks were ahead of them in so many ways. For example, everyone goes on about the Beatles Norwegian Wood, which was stylistically very interesting... but "See My Friends" was done quite some time before. And John Lennon and Pete Townsend were both big fans, obviously influenced... I don't know why people don't see how influential the Kinks actually were.
