I think it would be peaceful for those 10 mins when everyone was asleep & mass hysteria when everyone woke up & realized what had happened.
What would the earth be like if we solved world hunger & machines took over all manual labor?

A tricky question. I’m not sure how many people in the world actually consider hunger a problem. I think that situation could be achieved only by letting the poor starve to death once machines enable the wealthy not to need anything from them.

Therefore, most of the current human population would be replaced by machines, with some or all remaining humans devoting a small fraction of their time to programming and maintaining them, and doing whatever they want the rest of the time. I have a feeling many would choose to remain faithful to the time-honored sport of making someone’s life miserable, and can only wonder how far it could escalate.

Same question.

The Matrix would be inevitable.

What would happen if we returned to the barter system?

Ooh, we would have some serious fighting!

Without formal regulations, everyone think that what they are offering is worth more that what they are being offered.

What would happen if the person above me forgot to ask the requisite question?

Image Ooh, ooh ... I know!

I'd say something rude to the person above you.

:wtg:

Now, what would happen if China went to war with the US?

I think it would be similar with the "cold war" time: Both countries are too big and have too many weapons, so if they would have an open war, that would force both sides to use all their weapons, it would simply end with the world doomed because of nuclear fallout ... Because of both countries knowing that neither of them would survive an open war without critical losses, it would end with "secret wars": Industry spying, economical fighting, diplomatic arguing, unofficial supporting of illegal terror groups, ... until one of the country finally is economical destroyed.

As example for that economical wars: The US government had deals with the arabian oil countries, and engaged them to produce much more oil then needed, because of that the price for oil and similar ressources were decreasing. Around that time russias export were about to 80% export of similar ressources like gas and oil. So a lower price for that ressources was like a bomb for the russian economy.

I think in the end, the US would win, because of the one child politic, China already has problems to find enough workcraft and will have economical misadvantages, because large parts of their people will be to old to strenghten their economy.

What would happen if all kind of television suddenly wouldn´t work anymore?

People would watch shows on the Internet if all tv quit working.

What would happen if we ran out of oil & gas for good?

People would hoard what little they had left and gauge the rest of humanity until our landfills were overburdened with useless items. Eventually the hipsters would take over...it would be beards and artisanal everything.

Okay maybe I'm biased because I live in NY and the hipsters killed Brooklyn.

Perhaps someone less bitter should try this one....

same question

We would use bicycles and roller skates as our main means of transport.

What would happen if media (i.e. TV, movies, and music) never existed?

If TV, movies and music never existed people would be forced to entertain themselves. Video games would still exist, and board games such as monopoly so that is what people would do to entertain themselves, as well as go to plays and live entertainment. A world without music would be such a harsh place I would think since I love music.

What if the world became one world united for the common good and there were no longer wars (on earth at least)?

Regarding the first answer if everyone were forced to use bicycles and roller skates then this would perhaps decrease the % of people overweight and obese, yes? 8)

Utopia, or Borg, but then that "common good" thing never works out as planned, except for the planners.

So many choices ...

I'd probably go to the Great Library of Alexandria and see what the ancients knew (I'd be sure to take a translator). Or maybe chronicle the life of Jesus Christ. Maybe see the creation of the universe.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'd probably go into the future and leave this backwards present day behind.

...

Okay, for you politically minded American folk (I'm in a political mood, tonight  ): what would happen in a political debate between Rachel Maddow (liberal) and Michelle Malkin (conservative) – two very opinionated (if not one-eyed), media-savvy political commentators on opposite sides of the political divide? Who would win, and why?

It has been shown scientifically that such an argument between two extremely opinionated people such as these women is highly unlikely to change anyone's opinions. In fact, it would just make people on both sides believe in their viewpoint more strongly. There is no better way to convince someone their opinion is right than to tell them that it is wrong. When our viewpoints are challenged we simply feel much more determined to defend them.

So, in answer to your question, they would both win and they would both lose. See, it would depend on who you ask: people with more conservative viewpoints are going to declare Malkin to be the winner, while people with more liberal viewpoints will declare that Maddow is the winner. There simply cannot be one decisive winner.

What would happen if the U.S. suddenly decided to invade Canada?

Funny enough, there's a movie called Canadian Bacon featuring exactly that plot... it's quite funny.

People wouldn't really take it very seriously, as Canada hasn't got much worth fighting over...

I'd like to know what would happen if someone developed an instant transport machine, something like a fax machine, where you put any object (cake, book, etc etc) in at your side and it dematerializes as you "fax" it anywhere in the world and it "reconstructs" or clones itself, at the other end. In other words, you could send anything anywhere!
