A Dark Lord (Sauron), a bad wizard (Saruman) and a plain gold ring form part of a fantasy in which Gandalf (a good wizard), Gimli (a dwarf), Frodo, Sam, Pippin (all hobbits), Boromir, Aragorn (humans) and two additional protagonists go through many trials and tribulations, involving Balrogs, Nazgul and Orcs. Frodo and Sam must somehow find Mount Doom and throw said ring into a crack full of lava.
How this story unfolds towards a dramatic climax is a fascinating saga. The imagination of its author knows no bounds!

I think Lord of the Rings is a good story. I only saw said film form though not in said books.
