How about the ghosts of all those soldiers who died on battlefields throughout history? There must be thousands. Tens of thousands.

I'm not really a shipping fan as such but find stuff such as the tale of the Mary Celeste interesting to speculate on.

There's the well known legend of the Flying Dutchman who swore to sail round the Cape of Good Hope at all costs.

There's also a legend of how Table Mountain cloud / mist is the result of a Dutchman named Van der Hum (not sure if I got the name right) who challenged the Devil to a pipe smoking competition.

I love stories like that. They're exciting. My fave yarn is the one about S.S. Ourang Medan

One of my fave childhood books was a different version of the Flying Dutchman, in which the main character, Ruffen the sea serpent, meets him and helps him. I'm not the least bit embarrassed to say that I still like the story.
