I passed my initiation into the Supreme Council of Evildoers 300 years ago.

Heh! I've been noticing ever since it arrived at the year of my birth (1982). I feel younger already. When I post this, the year of my pretend birth will be 1990 and I will be .... 17 again!

I keep reading up on fractals. I don't understand yet.

I'm pretty good with math but I don't like it much.

That was my story for years.

Now I'm not even good at it anymore.

What's so difficult to understand about infinitely detailed images created from a seemingly simple complex equation?

oh wait...

At least it's easy to appreciate their beauty.

What math classes have you guys taken up to? Math is kind of boring for a while... but it gets more interesting the more you know.

Only first level calculus. I was up through pre-calc when I was 12 or 13, as I was homeschooled... but I concentrated on my social deficits in high school rather than academics and therefore came out intellectually more stupid than I went in. Insofar as the hard sciences and mathematics are concerned, anyhow. I sometimes wonder what would have happened to me if I'd gone straight to university instead. Probably be arrogant as hell.

Edit: post #2001

This calls for a Kubrick fest!

And let's not forget Sir Arthur C. Clarke.

Here he is, tinkering with his radio equipment as a young man:

Ah, that's when Math got fun for me. I love Calculus. My favorite area of math now is combinatorics.

I have a friend at my college who was home schooled, he's a pretty smart and mature guy...I think he'll be almost done with his math degree by the time he's 18. I don't know what he would have gained by going to a normal high school...

I wonder what would have happened to me if I was home schooled instead of going to a regular high school. That place was terrible...

Edit:Congrats on the posts... I'm working on mine... still haven't broke 1500.

I have only seen bits and pieces of 2001: A Space Odyssey... I really need to see that film.

I have seen this quality film...

So, are your 11 now? (Post 2001)

Yeah, when I hit 1971 I got all nostalgic and started posting the story of my life for each post through 2007. You may have noticed...or not. Anyway, I wanted to do something unique going into 2000, so that is what I did. Chronicled my life for everyone as a "get to know me".

I was also homeschooled and I'm still studying now, electronics in fact so I'll be prepared for technical school. One of my favorite movies was about ham radio:

I attend a private high school, most of the students are upper class and the curriculum is very in-depth (Each course in senior year is worth college credit.)

Cool, I wish I could afford that. My step-dad could actually but he doesn't care. I'm going to be taking a lot of loans when I go to college since he makes enough to disqualify me from federal aid and doesn't care to help me with bills - so what does it matter to him about my future!

Ouch, my family doesn't help me with college. But my family is also poor, so I get some assistance... still need a ton of loans though.

It's kind of terrible being in that bracket... where it's assumed that family will help out... but they don't.

I'd rather be homeschooled than in a private school though... at least till I got to the advanced stuff. By then I'd probably have a zeal for learning that I could just teach myself...

So, how many people here have been homeschooled?
