You have read up on The Winchester Mystery House, haven't you?

Love her name. And her in general.

The Winchester House story is a most interesting one. The house even has doors that don't lead anywhere among other oddities. The daughter of the guy who made his fortune from guns had it built and she was a hermit. She apparently saw spirits of folk who had been killed by guns made in her father's factories, and resolved to build a place where they would be welcome. She regretted the fact that her fortune came from something so potentially fatal.

It has a rather "spooky" feel even from the outside!

She constantly held seances to try to contact and apologize to the thousands of spirits of people who had been killed by Winchester guns.

There's something about her name I like

Our oldest and most famous castle, The Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, built in the 1660's is not really a castle but a fortress:
Built as a five pointed star, or pentagon with five bastions.







There are quite a number of other buildings more similar to the general concept of "castle." I'll post some of them shortly.
