My grandfather was Irish. I think the rich use of eh comes from there

My grandfather was Irish. I think the rich use of eh comes from there

i had no idea of its irish etymology. in japanese, they say [phonetic] "Nay!" or "Nay?" to express the same thing. for example - "oy-shio-nay!" ["this (food) IS delicious!" versus "oy-shio-nay?" meaning "isn't this [food] delicious"?
