And what about backseat seatbelt, hey? No comment.

all seatbelts would be replaced with strapples!

they should be made like strapples straps in his picture that would be way more comfortable and a lot more safe.

ok spinal systems, contour-u beds anyone?? maybe contour-u counches?? sounds comfy

indeed, it would especially make kids and adults with sensory integration disorders definitely want to buckle up for some comfort while on a long drive!! !

a good spinal seating system mixed with a good harness head strap arm straps and leg straps can make a huge difference in how a spine is positioned... for someone with scoliosis and kyphosis deformities it is important to use complex positioning arrays...

there are two types of spinal seating systems... there are "off the shelf" and then custom moulded systems..

Image

off the shelf usually used with non deformed spines...

and custom moulded ones... exclusively used for heavy deformities and people who require complex positioning.

lets go through the process of making a custom moulded seating system...

first you go into the dealers office and a casting is made...

the first step in casting is to be put in a special machine that takes a vacuum mould of your back and sides,

Image

it definitely looks weird, feels weird in the beginning but then feels oddly good hahaha...

after about an hour in the moulding machine it is complete and the system is switched off and you are put back in your current wheelchair (in my case a sh***y airport style wheelchair at that time)

Image

then it is inspected for any impurities, if impurities are found a remould is done...

there were a few impurities on mine so they got me back in and fixed it, took an extra 30 minutes instead of a whole hour longer...

then i was taken out again and then they inspected it again, and tilted the entire machine back and poured in a special mixture, since the machine was latex you could pour liquid in...

Image

then they wait about 5 minutes for the stuff to set... and it is pulled out of the negative mould... what results is a positive mould of my back...

Image

then you wait a few weeks... and heres the result!

Image

usually you go in to get a new one made every 6-12 months... if you have degenerative condition of the spine (yep! thats me!)

the seating system is called a Contour U system...

anyone want moulded beds and couches too?

Wow, from reading your posts on tight straps I knew powerchairs were comfy, but I didn't know they were that comfy! 8O

Now that wouldn't be good in a car, the driver would fall asleep for sure.

yeah, i tend to frequently fall asleep in mine if i am not doing anything.. so i have to be doing SOMETHING at all times otherwise i start crashing out... Contour U for cars DEFINITE NO NO!! ! that would be TOO comfortable... tight straps were just the beginning... theres a lot more to powerchairs for me to talk about here :D we are only at the tip of the iceberg... still gotta talk tilt systems, recline systems, lateral tilt systems, lateral supports, adductor supports, ahh so many things, and yet we arent even finished with spinal seating systems...

The thing is with these spinal systems is you gotta get them redone every year as your spine changes otherwise IT can cause spinal problems!! !

Just like old shoes/sneakers I suppose.

I'm interested to hear about recline systems, can powerchairs be made into a bed?

whats this old sneaker/shoe thing here??? you mean that they can cause probems? yeah you gotta get a new one every year or else...

hey hey hey! dont jump the guy boy! we gotta go into tilt systems!

tilt systems are a rarer component than harnesses, they are only used with patients who have such a condition that requires frequent position changes, most people who are in their powerchair all the time get a tilt system to mitigate pressure sores, to get pressure off the butt and onto the back more... a tilt system combined with a tight chest strapple is quite comforting, and also the nice thing is you can have your hands on your chest strapple and fall asleep hahaha :D

Image

thats not even the tilt system maxed out... maxed out your almost laying flat on your back with your legs in the air, i call that dead bug mode when i do that... its very comfortable in dead bug mode, since my harness is a bit overmeasured in length :D

Yes, if you walk or exercise with bad/old/worn out shoes/sneakers often you could be causing problems to your knees and spine (giving you a bad step or aggravating a bad step). That's why people shouldn't borrow another person's shoes to exercise, 'cause if the person has a bad step you'll get it too while wearing the shoes and end up hurting your articulations and spine.

But we were talking about comfy powerchairs here. :D

Just looking at pictures of them makes me feel sleepy (imagining tight straps or a heavy lead blanket), especially since it's just after lunch.

Its probably why i am even able to fall asleep in bed after 5 hours (i get in bed at 7 and fall asleep at midnight) and im usually constantly thinking about tight straps and blood pressure cuffs and lead aprons hahaha...

I think it would be cool if they made those wrist and arm cuffs out of blood pressure cuffs for me hahaha

and maybe a lead apron type chest strapple hahaha...

total sensory paradise hahaha... that would be funny hehehe...

if you ever wound up in a powerchair would you want all the same things i want?

Without a doubt!

I'd like a blood pressure cuff strapped around my head, does that sound weird?

noooo that does not sound weird... ive even thought of doing that at the doctors office, stealing his XL and wrapping it around my head, that would be so awesome having a blood pressure cuff wrapped around my head hehehe :D i love getting my head squeezed in hugs, id like it SUPER tight too :D

hmmm, maybe we could create some sort of sensory therapy business here...

lead strapples.... specialty blood pressure cuff based head straps...

blood pressure based wrist and arm cuffs...

hmmmmmmmmmm....

i think we have a business here....
