If I knew where north was, wouldn't the other compass points become obvous then, thus eliminating the need for additional info?

Why is your crab facing north as opposed to any of the other compass points? Any special reason?

He can't be at the North Pole then because then he'd be facing south surely?

Would it be of any help if we bored a tunnel through the earth between the poles, and threw down a voluntary alien to make preliminary measurements to find out if the South Pole is more north than the North Pole?
