I wasn't up then. You were probably asleep during my yesterday afternoon, but it was unusable. I had to go talk to people on Duolingo instead.

Good to hear, Mooms.

Was it just Spark customers that were affected, or NZ as a whole? To think that so many people can be affected because of a few people downloading malware. 8O

My guess is NZ as a whole. There is probably more bandwidth and more routes within the country, where Mooms could still browse NZ websites, than there was bandwith or routing that could make the jump to Australia or across the Pacific.

That's all done by trans-oceanic fiber cable, and some of it has more limited capacity than other parts. That would definitely be a bottleneck since NZ is a remote island nation. :D

NZ has two ocean fiber cable routes out of the country, principally, before it can hop to the rest of the world: Via Australia and via Hawaii.

I think it's fascinating, here, have a look:

I think it was just Spark, but that's the new name for Telecom, which is our biggest provider, so more than half the country was down. I am a bit hazy on the details, but I think other companies use Spark's infrastructure, so I believe they were affected too.

As Kip said, half of NZ get internet wiped out just because a few people tried to look at nude pictures.

Yellow leaves are taking over the green leaves. (Random observation.)

Starting to warm up here. Thinking of planting tomatoes, but no point doing it until I am back.

I've never planted tomatoes, or anything else for that matter. Didn't have the opportunity. I might have liked it.
