I actually get called a "Mozzie" (i.e., Māori Ozzie) here in Oz.
Apparently it's because we're loud, in your face, and there's an awful lot of us in Australia – just like mosquitoes.

Anyways ... you're banned for taking insect repellent everywhere you go.

Oh dear Murihiku, and I rather liked you. Unfortunately Mozzies (the insect variety at least) are my bête noire. Being of English blood instead of a hardened Kiwi, the damn things savage me. Twelve years and they still prefer me to anyone else in the area.

I dislike insects. Anyone who mentions them is therefore banned.
