Judge Rotenberg Center. I normally like to describe things in unbiased terms. I've even been known to at least acknowledge what Autism Speaks says about itself. I apologize to Dr. Israel for not granting him that courtesy, but they use electric shocks as an aversive (not ECT, which is done while the patient is unconscious and is painless; these are meant to cause pain, because apparently they work better than ammonia and beating with spatulas); they claim to use it for severe, intractable self-injury (uh... more pain? Huh?) but actually use it for minor things like standing, touching your hair or making friends; and they sometimes order a student to misbehave, shock them if they refuse a direct order, and if they obey, shock them because they broke the rules. I'm not even kidding. Shy of half of the students are autistic.
