Didja know Gillian Anderson was actually born in Chicago, raised in England, and schooled after 11 in America again?

Now, talking of The X-Files, and how it dives into my continuing Doctor Who photo retrospective, Vancouver was the location where many X-Files episodes were filmed. And so was the Doctor Who telemovie, filmed in co-production between Fox, Universal, and the BBC.

Image

While given a distinctly American flair, the Doctor Who telemovie deviated surprisingly little from the original source material of the series, considering some of the stories considered for a new series. Liverpudlian actor Paul McGann played the Doctor, regenerating from Sylvester McCoy. The Master stalks the newly regenerated Doctor throughout San Francisco, climaxing in a titanic battle next to the TARDIS' power source, the Eye of Harmony.

Unfortuantely, an eagerly anticipated series never materialised, and the hole was once again filled with original novels, this time, updated to include the Eighth Doctor. Soon, licensed audio adventures also began to fill the gap.....

I think that Stargate SG-1 is also shot in Vancouver. Sci-Fi capital?

Random question: anyone else dislike getting a haircut?

I do. I hate being touched by the barber, and I avoid looking at the person. It makes me nervous.

I've gotten to where I can "deal" with having the person way too far in my personal space. Same three or four self-deprecating jokes that seem to keep them sufficiently amused to not interact with me all that much, past moving my head so they can work on an area.

One of the reasons I tend to pay a bit more than I consider "reasonable" for a haircut: If I pay more, I'm assuming (so far correctly) that the person doing the job is better qualified, or at the least not giving the same three haircuts to everyone they see. Last time I went to one of the cheaper places, I definitely regretted it.

I just hate the whole sudden "change" involved, looking in a mirror and not fully recognizing myself. Even if I don't mind how it looks, even if I happen to like it, it takes me a while to get over the shock. Even my appearance is part of my routine... >_<
