Yes it does, YES IT DOES!!

Moomins were probably the most feared berserkers of all. Because someone like a Moomin doe not get mad easily, but when they finally do, it's positively apocalyptic.

By the way, why is the Moomin carrying both a shield and a 6-foot long (two-handed) battle axe? That was oddly specific.

I was referring to what I had read, and to some pictures of the Varangian Guard of Byzantium.

And you are Banned for not researching Rus, Varangians, and for possibly not knowing that the Imperial Bodyguard of Emperor Basil II was made up of Varangians, also called 'axe-bearing barbarians'.

When I Googled pictures of them, some pictures showed them with shields.

Oh, and they always carried daggers, too.

Which would not suit a Moomin at all, I think.

Ok, so those are some fairly long axes, I'll grant you that.

I even found one picture with a single Varangian guard holding both a shield and an axe that was taller than he was.

But, in the majority of the pictures, the axe is not as tall as the person, and people were shorter back then, so I would wager a Varangian guard's axe is more like 4-4.5 feet, and with not a very thick stock. Therefore you could probably still swing it with one hand if you had a shield, especially if you choked your grip up on it a bit, and left part of the handle to be used as a counterweight.

But Varangian Guards are not Vikings; Greece and Norway are quite far apart. Berserkers are Vikings.

Ok, so I just read that the Byzantine emperors recruited Norsemen and English Normans into the Varangian guard to be their personal bodyguards. Therefore some Vikings were Varangians. I stand corrected. I am banned!

...But most of the evidence suggests the axes were not 6 feet long, and I have a hunch that they were still used one-handedly many a time. So you are still banned too!

Banned for not mentioning the daggers. Why would Moomins not like daggers? As far as I am aware they have a great affinity with knives of all kinds. Useful things.

And one of the Moomins smokes pot all day. He could be hiding anything under his coat.
