Bosnia-Herzegovina: an independent state since 1992, formerly part of Yugoslavia, and before that the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. Scene of a bloody war in 1992-95 when it broke away from Serbian-dominated Yugoslavia. Its Ottoman past explains why it has a very large Moslem population.
