Well on another thread we've been discussing rusks, which could be described as cookies but are almost exclusively used for dunking in tea or coffee. They come in a number of flavours here in South Africa. In Germany zwieback is a form of plain rusk almost lie melba toast.

So what cookies do the Dark Side initiates / candidates want? Ginger? Choc chip? Marie biscuits? Jam squares? Spice cookies? Biscotti?

Would you settle for tannin free and caffeine free Rooibos tea? :D

All I know of Rooibos Tea is what I read in Alexander McCall Smith's books.

But I like Shortbread and Butter Cookies with crystallized sugar on top.

Envirozentinel, I?ve lived in South-Africa! :D

I don?t remember eating rusks, I did however eat too much biltong..

But I?m not easily persuaded, it?s going to take some pretty magnificent cookies to get me to the dark side. It?s a big decision, changing sides. Or visiting sides..? Are the cookies a lure to visit the dark side or be initiated to the dark side for all eternity?

Either way the cookies would definitely have to be chocolate chip, and at least as large as the ones you get from Subway. With copious amounts of large chocolate chunks. And maybe with cream on top? I?ve never had or even heard of a chocolate chip cookie with cream on top, but it?s starting to sound to me like something I should?ve tried years ago..

Riikka, don't worry, we don't change too much around here. I've only ever seen Krabo as a kitten, and occasionally his Krab turns around or changes colour. When I can be bothered, i vary between Moomin avatars. Enviro has a selection of regular avatars that he uses, although the cookie one is new. Our dear Sylkat has been a dormouse the whole time.

Krabo, I was going to print out that verb so I could see how you formed it, but you beat me to it!

Enviro - definitely chocolate chip please, although I am partial to ginger nut biscuits as well. Good for dunking. :D

Riikka, did you know I play ice hockey? I'm working hard at being Finnish. Just got to get that language sorted.

Does anyone remember Mrs. Fields' Cookie Shops?

The BEST of all possible cookies, ever.

Sad, now.

We never had those. Although all this talk of cookies is making me hungry. Time to get up and have some breakfast I think.

We have korppu. They are hard as brick and don't really taste anything. That's why they are covered in sugar and cinnamon (kaneli).

Pancakes are quite a speciality of mine. They are usually rolled up served with cinnamon sugar and a dab of lemon juice.

Riikka, you would get lovely choc chip cookies of acceptable size and a brief visit to the dark side. Not like planet Mercury which has a dark side all the time...

My gran used to make the best cookies! She had one of those old fashioned "mills" to push the dough through.

Moomin, did you know you can even get peanut butter cookies? I've made them. I'm quite partial to peanut butter bread as a snack - I seem to recall you mentioned your aversion to peanut butter on another thread? You don't know what you're missing! :P

Why on earth do they wanna call jam 'jelly'?

Nope, no peanut butter. It is horrible.

Enviro, I am so coming over to your place for pancakes though, they sound delicious. :D
