In real life, Xerxes was both bemused and impressed by the Spartan's success, but it seriously pissed him off after a few days of fighting. In fact, normally, the Persians were respectful to valiant warriors who fought well, but Xerxes was apparently so pissed off that he decapitated and crucified Leonidas' corpse, and that's blasphemy for the time. Of course, we're talking about a guy who had the Hellespont (part of the Mediterranean I think) whipped because of the stormy seas that wrecked so much of his fleet. Even though he was actually more bearded and clothed than he was in the movie, Xerxes was a hubris-filled megalomaniac.





BTW, here's my satirical review of 300, as my evil movie reviewer alter-ego, Lenny Moult. He's a mixture of Roger Ebert, Mary Whitehouse, and Malcolm Muggeridge.
