In North Korea, if you escape the country and the government finds out who you are and can't catch you, they throw your immediate AND extended family into a concentration camp.

The replacement to the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is a combination "skyway" (basically, a high freeway) and a self-anchored suspension span. Construction began in 2002, and won't be completed until late summer 2013.

The setting for Little House on the Prairie was located on a ranch in Simi Valley, California. A few years ago there were wild fires which burnt down the original little house set. They rebuilt a new house that followed the same model. It's the only structure that remains on the Little House set, all of the other buildings were demolished on the last episode of the series.

Interstate 238 in California does not conform to the numbering conventions of the Interstate Highway System. The convention dictates that Interstates with three-digit designations are "auxiliary" routes of an Interstate with a one- or two-digit designation. (Auxiliary Interstates usually "spur" into or bypass a populated area--that's a tidbit for another post, though.) In this case, if it stuck to the naming convention, Interstate 238 would be affiliated with Interstate 38. The problem, of course, is that there is no Interstate 38; the nearest primary Interstate to I-238 is I-80. The reason for the aberrant numbering is purely practical: the non-freeway portion of the route is signed as California State Route 238, so the non-standard numbering was intended to maintain continuity. Also, at the time, there was no x80 number available in California.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) - Johnny Depp decided to give Willy Wonka a high-pitched voice because he used it on his daughter, Lily Rose, and she liked it.

The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) dictates the standards for the use of road signs, traffic signals, road markings, and so on for the United States. The State of California deviates from the MUTCD guidelines more than most other states do because it already had an extensive freeway/highway network by the time the US Government decided to standardize traffic signage, etc... in the US.

The original plan for BART--the rapid transit train system in the San Francisco Bay Area--included running trains across the Golden Gate Bridge. That never happened.

In Portal 2, Wheatley was originally to be voiced by Richard Lord, but was voiced by Stephen Merchant instead.
