Sunnuntai (please, note the syllable sun in the name. Finnish is not so different at all  )

^ it's similar in Norwegian too; søndag. Sonntag in German. Very much sounds like the same origin for them all. Krabo, I'm guessing that tai means day?

Mandag

Yes, tai means "day" in those names. Otherwise not used.

Tiistai.

8O so what would day be outside of the names for weekdays? We only use dag in Norwegian. Tiistai is tirsdag here. So similar...

Onsdag

Thursday.

Skilpadde, we have adopted the tai from the Swedish dag. The normal Finnish word for day is päivä, and this word is never used when referring to the names of days of the week.

I see, interesting that Swedish has influenced your words like that.

Friday. Fredag. Freitag. Not sure if the latter in German has to do with Frei (Norse mythology) or free. I'm guessing the former, but it's a fun thought that TGIF made it into the language!

Lördag (Swedish this time, my country is bilingual.)

The Frei in Freitag (etc.) does come from Norse mythology. You are right about this. -- Yes, Swedish language and practises have indeed influenced Finnish language. So has German, there are numerous cases when German grammar was force-fed into Medieval Finnish. Our orthography follows certain German practices, even today.

^ it's the same here, except the ö is written ø.
Yes, German has been influential here too, but it's to be expected in Norwegian, since it's one of the Germanic languages. Dutch has also influenced the language and the word skilpadde comes from Dutch Schilpad, which is the same as the German schildkröten. Kröten, pad and padde all mean toad. A while ago Spiderpig taught me that it even has an Old English counterpart, shellpad. The only question now is why isn't there a day named after shellpads?
Shellpadday. Kilpikonnatai. It sounds so right.

Søndag.

Quarta-feira

Christian weekday names, except sábado ('Sabbath') and domingo ('Lord's [Day]'), are really boring: segunda-feira ('Second-Fair'), terça-feira ('Third-Fair'), quarta-feira ('Fourth-Fair'), quinta-feira ('Fifth-Fair') and sexta-feira ('Sixth-Fair'). No wonder they didn't catch on in any language other than Portuguese, which, dialectally, has their pagan counterparts, too: luns ('Moon's [Day]'), martes ('Mars's [Day]'), mércores ('Mercury's [Day]'), joves ('Jupiter's [Day]') and venres ('Venus's [Day]'), cognates to their Spanish equivalents.

Good one! You should spell it like kilpikonnantai. The additional "n" is needed in certain compounds.

Friday.

Forcing the suffix -tai into Krabo doesn't seem to work. However, crab is in Finnish rapu and Rapustai looks fine. (Again, Swedish influence for the "s.")

Lauantai. Pronounced [low-un-tie] ('low' rhymes with how).
